If it's crap... We'll tell you

*sigh*
Let me just start off saying i loved the first MUA. The character roster was diverse and satisfying , the story was interesting and all characters multiple cool moves (about 10 per character) and 4 costumes.

Now we come to MUA2 (set during Civil War). I was really looking foreword to this but the more I find out about it, the more I start to doubt. Lets start off with the roster.

Presently all but 2 characters have been revealed and its looking, well a little odd...by odd I mean bad.
Here it is: Daredevil, Green Goblin, Human Torch, Invisible Woman, Mr.Fantastic, The Thing, Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man, Luke Cage, Deadpool, Juggernaut, Spider-Man, Storm, Songbird, Thor, Iron Fist, Wolverine, Venom, Penance, Gambit, Jean Grey, (unknown), (unknown)

Now compare that to the MUA roster:Captain America, Colossus, Deadpool, Elektra, Human Torch, Iceman, Invisible Woman, Iron Man, Luke Cage, Moon Knight, Mr. Fantastic, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Storm, Thing, Thor, Wolverine, Black Panther, Blade, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, Nick Fury, Silver Surfer

Aside from the obvious point of MUA2's is shorter, I also think its worse. Yes all the have-to-be's are there (Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America etc.) but the rest is characters that weren't present or as important as other characters during Civil War, are missing. For example we get Thor and Jean Grey over Black Panther or Punisher. It seems they avoided some characters as not to repeat themselves but I'd take Doctor Strange over Penance any day. And if i may go off on a tangent, Penance REALLY. He's such a minor villain and i didn't even like him in civil war, or at any other point. Bullseye is exempt but Penance must be in the game. Really? Now thats not even my biggest problem. No heres my problem. Notice the smaller roster, the lack of some major stars such as most X-men. You know what this means. They're all going to be fucking downloadable content. It wouldn't surprise me if they've already made another 20 characters but there going to have to be paid for separately in the online store. To quote "The Venture Brothers" What a dick move

My final point is this. Every interview I watch causes me to loose more and more faith. In the E3 interviews the interviewee is bullshitting so much. Nearly every questions he dodges the answer.
Example (paraphrasing): Q: How does the story explain certain heroes and villains teaming up, how does it explain Spider-man working with the Green Goblin
A: In the game all characters have unique fusion moves. Even heroes and villains can combine powers leading to vast amounts of unique combos
Thats not even mildly answering the question. In these interviews the guy always goes on and on and on about fusion moves. But lets face it, they're not exactly a revolution in gaming, its been done before and better. And as for these "vast amount of fusion moves" when you look at the trailers thats a big lie. Basically each character has one fusion move and it reacts identically to a different fusion move.
Example: Either Song Bird or Invisible Woman can make an energy field and Iron Man (or maybe Human Torch) can fill it with explosive potential.

Also the guy talks about things that are worse than MUA1 like its an achievement. Remember the 10 moves and 4 costumes per character, well now its 4 moves and 2 costumes. Wow way to go, and with less characters you'd think it would easier, but alas it's not to be.

I hope its good and i'm not often cynical about stuff but it looks like we're headed to disappoint valley.

Counting the two yet-to-be-named characters the rosters are only one character apart and that's not taking into account that they have yet to mention how many console specific characters there will be. Also, while I wont deny the sequels lineup looks a tad weaker with bottom tier heroes like Song Bird and Penance the first game had Moon Knight, Spider-Woman, and Ms Marvel who aren't exactly the top of the line either.

As far as the DLC factor is concerned lets not forget that the first game made you pay for such characters as Cyclops, Magneto, and The Hulk when they were initially released, however, they later released a version with the DLC characters included as Im sure the sequel will do in time. In short I wouldn't freak out just yet. It's hard to say how this game will shape up to the original which also had its flaws.

There are no console specific charters (you get Juggernaut if you pre-order the game).
Well Erik Spider-Woman, Moon Knight and Ms.Marvel are also cool characters even if they aren't higher tier, Songbird and Penance are ass.

And the MUA DLC only came when they got the rights to the Hulk back (gaming wise) so they though it would be good to bring some DLC. It was not engineered so people would have to buy DLC it was a thoughtful add on.

Your do realize they're not going to put up all the hidden characters and that they're going to have a ton of unlockables. On top of that they're definitely going to have a TON of DLC for this game.

The DLC is what im complaining about

Reply to This

Well they didnt release any of the unlockable characters the 1st time around so im sure the 2nd one will have more characters. Also where did you hear the costume thing from?

But Hulk wasn't the only character included in the original DLC for MUA. There was also Hawkeye, Nightcrawler Dr Doom, Sabretooth and more importantly Cyclops, Magneto, and Venom. Furthermore these weren't just one content download, no they were separated into two separate downloads at 500pts each or both for 800pts.

I truly understand your feelings on the original game, it was pretty good. However, to say that the DLC was just a thoughtful add on is a bit of a reach. In a game like MUA or MUA2 that have such a vast amount of content to pull from it would be silly in this day and age of video games to just throw it out there all at once for multiple reasons. DLC breathes fresh life into games at a very low price that five years ago you'd of traded in and been done with

All your points are pretty valid, it's starting to have me concerned. If Cyclops is DLC I'm gonna be PISSED. (He's the first leader of the freaking X-Men for crying out loud) Yeah I must admit the roster is a little disappointing. Like how many characters can you have that are DLC until it just get's redundant. There are many characters that should be in the roster to begin with IMHO.

And they need emma frost and bishop. They were very important in civil war!

Meh, I wasn't all too excited about this in the first place. I mean, the first game was mediocre, at best.
