If it's crap... We'll tell you

Why do people put up with Martin Scorsese's racism? In every film he's ever made he displays racist characters that put down every race but italian. Why? Why aren't more people up in arms about this?
Here is some links to spark the fire. They don't really answer the question but they prove that I'm not the only one who feels this way.

He primarily does gangster movies right?, well the most powerful and one of the most interesting group of gangsters were the Italian Mafia, and if you talk to anyone who lived in NY 40 years ago you would know that it was divided by sections racially. They all hated each other, Italians, Irish, Puertoricans and the Blacks. The only ones that were somewhat buddy buddy were the puertoricans and the blacks. Other than that they all hated each other and used slurs to talk about each other. Well if i was doing a movie about an Italian with connections to the mob in that time period, he would be a racist since that reflects his character. Their Mob members they don't have any moral issues killing people why would they have a problem throwing out a slur?. Of course they wouldn't, this goes for the basically every other single member of any mafia.
if you want to talk racist directors i think Spike Lee might be the most prominent, not only do some of his movies hint at it, he speaks the same way some of his characters do in real life. Like his criticism of Clint Eastwood not having any black soldiers in Flags of our Fathers even though they are in the film in background capacities. He completely ignores the fact that WWII they were no black soldiers in any major assaults and they were used for primarily auxiliary roles. After Eastwood says all this, Spike Lee just ignores the facts and calls him an angry old man. He doesn't care about facts, and I think if you say Scorsese is a racist then WTF is Lee. It doesn't matter what I say since you will still have your opinion though.

I hate to say this, but I think that the only reason that Scorsese is getting called a racist is because either...

A) sol aka "Cap'n Hates-A-Lot!" saw a movie of his he didn't like, and therefore must justify it.

B) Trying to get people to see the original Asian Infernal Affairs movie.

C) Trying to cause trouble in general

D) Trying to get people aware of the differences between a character, a writer, or a director.

So far, I'm stuck in the D category myself. I noticed the over-use of certain writers/directors continually using material compared to Scorsese's use of characters that have certain material.

MDS, did you even check the links I posted? Seriously man, come on.

Did I check them out? Of course I did. You really expect me to NOT do research before commenting?

As far as your first and second links, they BOTH reference "Reappropriate" a name that already conveys a misconception that is another topic all together.
Anyway, the two links both reference the complaints made by "Reappropriate" about a SINGLE scene in the movie that takes ALL OF 3-5 MINUTES tops. Sorry, but talk about shining the light on bullshit.
You want to use (As your ammunition) a complaint made regarding approximately 5 minutes of film to claim that someone has been a Racist for over 40yrs? Seriously, that's the weakest bullshit I've ever heard. They complain about the "appearances" of the Chinese gang members in the movie, when they aren't AROUND in the movie except FOR those 5 minutes. The SOLE PURPOSE of your first two linked websites is TO LOOK FOR SHIT TO BITCH ABOUT. Because I noticed, they ONLY wanted to mention Departed but NOT any other piece of work by Scorsese INCLUDING the wonderful Kundun...........

well? I'm waiting? Why is it that TWO of your sources are so eager to overlook an ENTIRE POSITIVE film only to complain about 5mins worth from another one? Come on, explain that one to me? Why is TWO of your sources clearly SLANTED to promote their OWN AGENDA that they over look the FACTS of what they are trying to claim? Why would they automatically assault Scorsese for 5min of film, YET not actually CONGRATULATE him for a film that runs for 2hrs and 8min? Well, come on Sol, I'm waiting... Why would they do that? What would they gain from it? Why would they focus on only 5min of film to try and attack someone's history? Why, I do believe that is called HAVING AN AGENDA.

As far as your third link? It's fucking Jay-Z for god's sake. Like I'm going to take the word of a "rapper" or whatever Jay-Z is this week, to determine the possibility of a director being a racist or not. Come on. I'm sure that Jay-Z would be just as excited as you or me, to meet Scorsese face-to-face. Jay-Z is NOT an authority on every issue that may or may-not be wrong with the World.

The links only show that I'm not alone in thinking Scorsese might be racist.

I will watch Kundun and then I'll have to decide if it washes away over forty years of social irresponsibility, racial violence, and the constant belittling of American ethnic groups.

Social irresponsibility? Like exposing the fractured mental state of Vietnam veterans, exploring the complex nature of two religions, and showing that most criminals usually end up getting betrayed and dying in horribly brutal ways?

You're right, he's far more irresponsible than Jay-Z, the former drug dealer who made millions of dollars glorifying ignorance, using racial slurs, and objectifying women.

No Chig, don't let facts get in the way. I mean, no one cares to look into the facts these days. They just want to assume that Scorsese must be racist because he happened to have ONE movie from Asia remade. I'm sure that the whole debate of how racist he was would suddenly disappear if that single movie wasn't in existence.
