If it's crap... We'll tell you

Why do people put up with Martin Scorsese's racism? In every film he's ever made he displays racist characters that put down every race but italian. Why? Why aren't more people up in arms about this?
Here is some links to spark the fire. They don't really answer the question but they prove that I'm not the only one who feels this way.

I'm sorry Q, I had no idea that the MAFIA was a ethic-based crime organization that is going to be filled with racial bigotry and racial hatred of other people. THAT'S THE POINT I'M MAKING.

Look, QT uses the Yakuza in Kill Bill 1 and 2... yet, no one seems to give a flying fuck about how the REAL YAKUZA feel about any other racial group and QT gets away (over and over and over) with it because he's hip and cool.

Scorsese uses the Italian mobs in Goodfellas (Other movies) and Irish mob (Departed) and hey look everyone! Martin Scorsese MUST be a racist and a bigoted director that has to be called to the floors and beaten black and blue! Oh no, we can't let this guy that has been one of the most influential directors of the last 40yrs get away with continuing the practice of using racist characters in his movies! Oh no, we gotta attempt to "call out" the 5' 4", 67yr old guy so that we can try and break him down into something that he's not. We gotta beat this guy down because he isn't as hip and cool as the younger guy is, so we can't let THIS bastard get away with it, while we turn a blind eye to the guy that young guy who IS! No, we gotta pick on this older guy NOW before we loose our chance, we can't let him get away with it anymore. We gotta do it Q, we gotta beat on Scorsese so that he'll suddenly repent his wrong ways.

Scorsese uses racism as a means for his characters to be more realistic, give the actor more material to work with to bring depth to the characters, and lets the viewer despise a character MORE because of that racism built into the character's presentation.

QT does it because he thinks he can get away with it because he's a "hip and cool" young director that works it in because he wants to.

Which of those is the "better" person? The one trying hard to be realistic, or the one doing it in order to APPEAR to be cool and hip?

As far as my statement goes.. No, you are wrong Q. I still find QT movies to be
UN-ENJOYABLE, that doesn't mean I close a blind eye to what is WRONG about them that MAKES them un-enjoyable.

That whole "fight" scene in Kill Bill would have worked if it was ANY bar in the world. But, nope, we gotta go with all the stereotypical aspects because QT thought it would APPEAR COOL. The set itself with it's OBVIOUSLY blatant use of the Zen-garden under glass so that the main hero can stand on top of it. We don't NEED that to convey the story of the character, we don't NEED that to convey that the "hero is cool under pressure", we don't NEED that to emphasize the location of the event.... WE KNOW this stuff BEFORE she walked in the door. Yet in order for QT to appear hip and cool and "with it" he throws that sort of shit into his movies all the time, and it takes me (The viewer) OUT of the story/action and causes me to roll my eyes in the UN-NEEDED attempt of the director to seem better than he is.

And as far as the Dusk to Dawn clip goes, I assume you know full well that particular introduction to a character was another example of QT's "hipness" that isn't needed. Sorry, but he could have just been seen with a beer and a should-holster and the WHOLE concept is conveyed that he's a dangerous person because of the gun, but he's just there to relax like EVERYONE ELSE.

Yet we don't get that. Instead, we get the impression that this is the TYPE OF GUY that further advances the NEGATIVE stereotypes of his background BY THE CHARACTERS actions.

For example, look at how Scorsese handles the introduction of the character Billy Batts......

Wow, a character that's having a drink and relaxing like everyone else. Hell, he's even partying the fact that he's out of jail. But wow, look at how everyone is greeting him with hugs and kisses. Look how even the "trouble" guy has to go pay his respect. Gee, even the lesser "Irish hoodlum" (the only racial slur) still drinks when offered one. Scorsese does it without DOING anything that conveys the negative aspects of stealing or showing a gun. Yet, the way OTHER CHARACTER interact with Billy Batts we KNOW that Batts is someone important. Even after the "insult" of shining shoes insults Pesci's character it's dangerous because of who Batts is. Look how everyone tries to "smooth ruffled feathers". How everyone feels the tension of getting these two people apart NOW. Even listen to the musical cues that are in the beginning and the attack scene, they convey aspects that makes it a more impactfull scene.

THAT my friends is how a character introduction should be handled properly. Not with QT's loaded stereotypical approach.

Don't forget, Robert Rodriguez directed this movie, too. With Tarantino's screenplay as it was.

Even if he was racist (which he isnt), we put up with it because he makes good movies.

Thank you for being honest.

I mean lets be real for a minute. We put up with celebrities who are shit bags because they entertain us.

Martin Scorsese is a racist. But he makes good movies

R-Kelly pees on children. But he sure can SING!

Woody Allen is a pedophile who married his own daughter. But he tells the most "whimsical" little stories!

And yes, OJ did it. But he was one of the greatest football prayer and heroes for young African American children back in the day. And besides, white people "did it" long before OJ did, for hundreds of years in this country alone, and got off scott free.

All I'm saying is as viewers and absorbers( for lack of a better word )of said entertainment, maybe we should be a little more "objective" or at the very least more outspoken in regards to the questionable sources our entertainment comes from.

1) I don't know Scorsese so I have know idea he is a racist. However if he is so what. As long as he doesn't hurt anyone or goes out of his way to incite race based crimes I could care less. We all know people with race issues I'm mixed and my family has plenty of them. We shouldn't ignore them we should be open about them.

2) R-kelly was videoed peeing on a willing girl who lied about her age. That is as much of the story as I got. I did not buy his music before nor did I after but a lot of our entertainers have drug issues me watching them dose not mean I support drugs.

lol now while I don't really agree with that argument I do think that if he forced her to be peed on that would be a different thing then her letting him.

3) ........ I was not there, it was his step daughter, and as long as it's not rape I could give a crap.

Also if every deed of your life was open to public review you then only 15mins got 24hr news time, you might feel a little differently than you do now.

Please you know R Kelly had a thing for little girls. He was even dating Aliyah back in the day. Am i the only one who remembers Age aint Nothing But A Number? Plus ignorance is not a defense (in the court of law anyway).
You people always want to make an excuse for R. Kelly
You know you brought his records ;)

What Woody Allen did wasnt technically wrong (since as far as i know he didnt touch her till she was legal)...just creepy and gross.

Hey I agree that R. Kelly is creepy and I would not trust him around any teenage girl I just like the kid said if I started peeing on you would you A) get out the way? or B) stand there?.

Reply to This

You seem to underestimate the stupidity of teenage girls. I was one of them, i knew lots of them so i know, if the man of your dreams ask to pee on you...well if anyone has a chance of peeing on you and you not moving (and f’ing them up) he would have the highest chance.
But to quote Reilly "I see piss coming i move. She see piss coming she stay". I was dumb back then but I wasn’t that dumb.

hmmmmm.....Lmao well I think people period are stupid. I mean dang when a gal loves you she will do a lot but dang.

wow...

Ignoring racist or people who promote it does not solve the problem( not that it's your responsibility to do so ), but supporting irresponsible and in some cases, disgusting and morally disturbing behavior, is against my core principles.

I hope you're just ignorant of the facts surrounding Woody Allen's marriage to Soon-Yi Previn, if not this will be the last time I respond to one of your posts.

Wiki quote:
"The relationship between Allen and Previn has often been referred to as a father dating his "stepdaughter," since he had been perceived as being in the child's life in a father-like capacity since she was SEVEN YEARS OLD."

If you're fine with that, cool. Just don't expect me to reply to anymore of your posts.

I tossed the R-Kelly comment in there for a laugh, she totally wanted to be pee'd on...although that doesn't mean he should have done it.

People are responsible for their actions, whether they want to admit it or not.

See that's what i mean. I have I friend that is starting missions work and I tried to tell him the difference between sharing information and trying to be right.

1) I never said ignore, actually I said do not but my writing skills are horrible so you may have been confused. Really when it comes to racists I think spending time with them is the best way to help them. Also, trying to understand where they are coming from. Most people don't think they are the bad guy.

2) The Woody Allen thing is weird but I have no Idea how he perceived his relationship with that girl, so who am I to tell him. Me being okay with it and feeling it is my place to judge are two different things.

3) nail meet head

Sharing information huh?

Your right. That's what we're here for.

But just so we're clear, the guy raise a little girl "as his daughter" from the age of 7 then decided to fuck her when she became legal( or so he claims )and I'm casting judgment by considering him a dirty old pedophilic piece of shit.

Alright... to each his own I guess.

Saw this last night, and it kicked ass. THe spill crew were really off with their review. The plot had some flaws but the action was incredible, kinda old school 80s action. If this had come out in 86-89 it woulda been a cult classic.
