If it's crap... We'll tell you

Why do people put up with Martin Scorsese's racism? In every film he's ever made he displays racist characters that put down every race but italian. Why? Why aren't more people up in arms about this?
Here is some links to spark the fire. They don't really answer the question but they prove that I'm not the only one who feels this way.

It does look good and I like DeNiro, but I don't see the connection. What's this clip got to do with this topic.

one can still be a racist and love their women, early white men hated the indians but loved their women, not saying DeNiro is a racist just making a point. and second point it's called hiding in plain sight, because they have common interests? I mean it makes sense. And my wife is Italian, it's ignorant to think that because scorsese portrays them like this means they are?

The fact that you identify Travis Bickle as a hero shows the true depth of your ignorance towards Scorsese's work as a film maker.

I couldn't have put it better if I hired someone.

The 2 of you are morons.

Do me a favor and just describe what happened at the end of the movie.

He wasn't a hero but he was labeled a hero. Scorsese never says Travis Bickle is an honorable character or that he is now "normal", hence the final scene when the music changes and Bickle quickly looks into his rearview mirror as if he saw something!

And as I stated before Bickle was a dark character who did not hate one specific race, nor is it said that he hates any race. He just hates the scum of NY!

If I may be so bold, but how can you call Travis Bickle a hero? Because he "saved" Iris? Prior to that, this same guy wanted to assassinate the New York Senator running for President, and he tried to do so because he blamed him for failing to win Betsy's affections. The problem is he had such a disconnection, he centered his frustrations on the wrong people. And if the Senator wasn't his primary focus, the "scum" that inhabited NYC were. And it took a series of events for him to finally snap, and ultimately kill some of them off.

If anything, Travis Bickle is an anti-villain. He has intentions that are seemingly good, but does so in a very evil manner. And he never acknowledges what he did as making him a "hero." And the film even hints that he'll relapse into his psychotic behavior again, meaning more people may die by his hand.

But to return to your point: you have to realize Scorcese isn't endorsing what his characters are doing or feeling, no matter how much of a recurring motif it is in his high profile films. Maybe its social commentary he's projecting. Taxi Driver was made in a time that reflected some of psychological toll Vietnam veterans went through after returning home from service, and the disconnection they have with civilians. A lot of people from Scorcese's class of filmmaking (the 70s and 80s) focus on this point.

Don't take this the wrong way, but you ought to do your homework on some of these filmmakers before you condemn like you did. Scorcese's deserving of much better than this.

maybe or a jew, either one is explainable with his movie as well, it's still a basis for a racist reaction.
