Why do people put up with Martin Scorsese's racism? In every film he's ever made he displays racist characters that put down every race but italian. Why? Why aren't more people up in arms about this?
Here is some links to spark the fire. They don't really answer the question but they prove that I'm not the only one who feels this way.
I do think Scorsese is racist and agree QT is, guy is just messed up. pulp fiction was good, not great, I see most of what he does, but have never been impressed. I mean I love the F word as much as the next guy but I also like the rest of the english language as well, I guess it's a good thing we live in the 2000's, 40 years ago they would have stuck him in a padded cell, couldn't say they would have been wrong. IMHO just another reason why acceptance is a lazy mans view of enlightenment. and why are society is in the shit hole. and Mel is just a fucking idiot, as with anybody really who try's to make money off religious themes. and scorsese isn't racist because his characters are but because he glorifies and reveres them for it, he has stated many times he admires the people he based the characters on. He is romanced with them and everything they do including being racist fucks!!

Like you and me Mel is a person with issues. I don't know the man but I wont condemn him for a drunken speech lots of people say dumb stuff when they r drunk. I think that I believe that he made a movie that meant something to him and was attacked for it. He most likely got drunk and angry and attacked back in a stupid way. I don't get why people are so angry about that movie.
What is "obvious" to me is that if a person dedicates there "Entire" professional career to portraying characters who insult minorities, than he just MIGHT have a problem with minorities.
Only people who don't experience racism regularly need to be reminded of it.
I am fully aware that there are racist in the "real" world.
Think of it this way, if I made movies for 40 years where the characters said penis or made penis jokes, or references to penises, would we be discussing whether or not I might like penises? Or would you be pretty fuck'n sure I had a fascination with penises?
I'm positive you have a fascination with penis... I kid I kid
Race and Racism are very interesting topics so what if scorsese does have a fascination with them? He makes amazing movies about the human experience, and he usually likes to shine light on the counter culture, or Crime culture, and within those communities that is how people talk...
It is all just make believe... Scorsese might relate with some of his characters, but they are not one and the same...
How many times does the movie roots use the word nigger?
You aren't suggesting the maker of that film is a Racist are you?
actually I would say yes, don't start ranting and raving but anyone who is involved with a racial theme or has been affected personally will automatically have some subconscience reaction and feeling of racism or sexism or anything else. The emotion required or not required to do a film like that, and not feel something is inhuman. I think pride in any one race over another is racism too. I am proud to be the human I am.
So Roots isn't a movie that tries to show the hardships of Blacks in Early America... it is really just an excuse for a bunch of white actors to say the word nigger?
Just because someone recognizes that there are different types of people doesn't mean they are a racist... It means they are a realist...
Can you say there is any one person on this planet that knows nothing of race? we all see what flawed men have portrayed and civilizations have fought in ignorance to proclaim themselves as but in all reality in both spiritually and scientifically we are all alike, to admit difference based on race is just a small ploy in that same line of thought. We all like to think we serve different gods, or have different ideas but it's just our pride trying to differentiate ourselves from one another. deep down our desires and ambition are alike.
oh and don't get me wrong I didn't try to imply that the makers of roots were racist, but they weren't ignorant to it or without personal feelings which was portrayed through the movie. and there are many different types of PEOPLE but that's just it we are all people, race is just a barrier.
