Mark Hamill calling it quits on the Joker
Recently I heard that after Arkham Asylum 2 comes out, Mark Hamill is calling it quits on playing the role of the Joker.
Really, here's the article
For me, this felt like the end of an era. He's been doing the voice since I was a kid watching the animated show every Saturday morning. His being in the original Arkham Asylum was a massive selling point for me, and he was brilliant in it too.
Anyone care to discuss? Perhaps possible replacements or how they'd write the character out of future games?

That's crazy talk. He must have been in character when he said that cause if not true I will laugh, if true...I might start a riot.
I don't think anyone can replace him BUT if they do decide on that they should do a contest and have us pick the new Joker voice.

i really wish they made another good batman cartoon not the crap theve just resently made with all the old voice actors then hed be sure to come back he diggs his rrole of Joker and worries he will end it badly but he wont end badly if it never ends HEEHEEEHEEHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA

Well, I could see why he would leave after the second game. I mean, the dialogue and voice direction in the first game was atrocious as it was; it was a wonder he sat through it all. If he had to go back and read the same schlocky writing again, I wouldn't be the least bit confused as to why he'd leave.

Actually yes he does.
I read somewhere just recently, that he is about to go into Directing soon. He's going to be directing the movie adaptation of "The Black Pearl" comic-book that he helped write. He's also going to be involved in writing the screenplay as well to get the movie as close as possible to the comic-book. He's hoping that after that, he'll have more directing options.
However, he says that he's done with certain aspects. He's no longer interested in being involved with doing any possible "Star Wars" voice-work or "Joker" voice-work. Those characters are "done" in his books, and it's time to continue working on current projects and not being constantly "recast" in older voice-work that isn't paying as much.

Of all the people who have played the Joker I think Mark Hamill's is the best. Nicholson was good but let's face it he was Jack Nicholson as the Joker. Heath's Joker was a great scary pyscho but with little of the zany humor. Cesar Romero had the mania but of course not the homicidal side. Hamill's joker had the zany humor and that dark edge you expect of the Joker. He could switch back and forth from silly clown to crazy homicidal psychopathic clown. He couldn't kill people in the cartoon but he gave the impression that he easily could and did off screen. His Joker also gets some of the best laughs

Well ServbotSteve, that's exactly what it is... and end of an era.
It's funny in a way, but "The Joker" more than any single character is divided into "eras" that effectively define a generation of fans. For some, it's the Cesar Romero "Joker" of being viewed more as a clown than a serial-killer. For others, it's Jack's "Joker" that was seen as a clown with anger-issues. Hammill's "Joker" was seen as a killer with a sickly-twisted sense of humor. Now we have Ledger's "Joker" that is more involved with the Joker's view.
It's all a matter of timing. In this case, the character had a hugely successful/popular re-birth in a movie. Because of this, people no longer see the Joker in the same light of prior versions. The more that people see a different version of the character, the less likely that the old actors are going to be involved with that character. It happened with Romero's version when Jack Nickolson did it. Even Jack's version was changed by Hammill's work on the animated series. So it's only logical that after "The Dark Knight", that Hammill's version of the Joker is no longer going to be the version seen anymore.
Plus with Hammill's age and the amount of work involved with that changing character? Well, I can't see any reason for him NOT to get away from it.

actually if you check Hamill is one of the premiere voice actors and unlike many celeb voices out there has a wide range. He also narrates many documentaries and the like
