I think it can work again. Not sure just how good any future superhero ensemble movies will be but Avengers proved definately doable.

Why do the Teen Titans suddenly come to mind? Actually, that might not be a bad idea. I've spoken to several kids who thought that X Men: First Class would contain a lot more of the actual X Men in their youth (I guess like the shots from the school in the other movies) and a lot less of the Magneto/Professor bromance. I wonder if they could draw in even younger crowds if you did a Power Pack movie. Actually, scratch that. It would almost certainly end up as a superpowered 'Three Ninjas'.

I wouldn't mind seeing a balls-out team-up of the Midnight Sons; with Cage and Snipes returning in the roles of Ghost Rider and Blade along side Morbius and whichever Redeemers they want to add under the guidance of the Sorcereor Supreme.

Also, not so much a group but I'd pay good money to see a buddy cop style 'Heroes for Hire'.

1. DC...don't do it. Ya'll already fucked up Green Lantern, no one's really cared about a Superman movie since the 80's (and I don't expect them to next year either...), so only Nolan was able to bail ya'll out from going 0 for 4. I mean in a perfect world, they'd actually take their time and really concentrate on making a good set of films that will work for THEM and THEIR universe and THEIR mythos. Butttttt the more likely scenario is that they'd rush into productions while The Avengers hype is hot and cross their fingers in hopes that the same good fortune will rub off onto them.  And I just REALLY don't want to see that. DC, you missed the boat. You had your chance, but Marvel beat you to the punch. Sorry....

2. I would definitely like to see if this formula would work outside of comics. A fresh new series of genre films that have interweaving stories and characters here and there that would culminate into one big Grand Finale spectacle. Not just like "Oh it's a sequel/spin-off of this popular supporting character or oh I referenced this in passing so it's the same universe now or even oh Jay/Silent Bob pop up in multiple Kevin Smith movies". I mean totally different movies with totally different (yet connected) events that take place in the same universe that's leading up to some grand scale event. I think that'll be the new way to get people excited about seeing movies knowing that all this story and depth is being built toward something cool.

But of course it would need to be restrained and handled with care, lest it'd reach levels of bad fanfiction and shoe-horned shenanigans that'd beat the idea into the ground, reducing it to being used as an easy excuse for the cross-promotion of lousiness.

Can it work again? Yeah sure. Of course it would take someone spending time to totally "reboot" almost all the major characters in the team-up movie. Because everyone at this point has basically shot themselves in the foot with how they've handled just about EVERY comic-book character except maybe Batman (Nolan's... which is coming to an end).

The problem is: You have to do what Marvel has done with the "team-up movie" being the goal of your entire line of movies. Marvel purposefully positioned each character's movie into a "coming next" part that was building up to something big. Iron-Man did it with the Nick Fury visit at the end, Stark's appearance in Hulk... etc,etc. It established off the bat (without getting in the way of the movie) that the "Universe is the same" for each of the characters. Plus, having the SHIELD agents in the movies helped keep some kind of thread going between them all. So of course, it only made sense that a team-up movie was down the road.  However, DC/WB has completely fucked that up by repeatedly stating that each of their movies are based in it's own universe that doesn't connect to the other movies. That's why WB is already scrambling to reboot Batman after Nolan's third movie is done, why they are pushing for a quick Superman movie to avoid lawsuits so that they can reboot HIS character down the road, and a push (mostly to get the team-up movie-money) for doing some kind of JLA film with either 3 or 4 characters.

Now, as far as taking a cross-over team-up? Well, the biggest issue that I have is that I don't really like them so much in general. AVP (Both of them) were complete horseshit that didn't have anything to really make you feel like you were in a Predators or Aliens movie, let alone having them come in contact with each other. I mean, basically they were nothing more than just fan-fic as far as I am concerned because of all the "added" crap they tried to pile on the predators took away from their appeal to begin with. Both of them are the "less you know, the scarier they are" type characters. Then we get into the Star Trek universe that tried to tie in the old crew with the Next-Gen.... THAT went horribly wrong and almost derailed the entire Next-Gen franchise from being able to do anything else afterward. Mostly because the old crew "team-up" was more of an extended cameo and not actually a team-up.

However, it can be done properly. The only problem is.... doing it PROPERLY and not just doing it for a quick cash-grab which is what is probably going to end up happening now that the Avengers movie has done so well at the box-office. Of course, kind of wanna see something like a Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings team-up. Let's put those Hogwart grads to use and dump them in Middle-Earth and see what they can do. =P

Incorrect. Of all the team ups, it was the ones with The Three Stooges that take the cake.

One worth noting was that cross-over with Johnny Bravo. That was pretty good, too.

Honorable mention: the episode where The Gang meets Mama Cass was a good'n as well.

I picked Don because it was COMPLETELY random. Where as most of the team-ups were people in character of a sort...this was just Don himself being...Don.
