MahMahAfro posted a statusWhat is your opinion of him? I think his movies are some of the best comedies out there, yet some people think he's poorly overrated. I think Superbad, and Knocked Up are some of the most funny and highest quality comedies of the last decade, and I don't even consider Funny People as much a comedy as a character study on a metaphorical Adam Sandler played by Adam Sandler. So, I was curious on the consensus of the spillios. What do you think about him?

I'm one of those guys who think he's overrated, the 40 year old virgin is ok as well as Superbad. I really don't think he is all that.
He didn't take part in Superbad.

You know what I hate? People who say they don't like Judd Apatow movies, but they love Pineapple Express. What's so special about Pineapple Express? That movie wasn't funny, the characters weren't real, the story was poorly written, and there were way too many half-ass attempts to get from Point A to Point B.
I watched it the other day and I thought it was ok, nothing that special and I REALLY hoped it was going to be an action/drug comedy version of Laurel and Hardy and I was disappointed with the overall result. And Seth Rogen is not John Candy, I'm sorry.
Permalink Reply by Cthulhu R'lyeh on November 24, 2011 at 2:13am Actually Knocked Up was funny and (while still probably falling a little into the realm of movie world) had a story that could be found somewhat believable. Pineapple Express on the other hand was just like "whatever just buy this."

Permalink Reply by Evan O'Nei on November 22, 2011 at 11:14pm I didn't think Pineapple Express was all that. In fact, I can't say (with the exception of 50/50 and The Ciderhouse Rules) that there is a single movie with Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen, or Kristin Wiig that I found funny, or even mildly enjoyable. yeah serious bombshell there...
Permalink Reply by The Dubya on November 23, 2011 at 7:45pm I think he's a better Kevin Smith, in the sense that he's been better at balancing the raunchy over-the-top comedy with the toned-down/realistic looks on relationships within a certain age group. Even back in the Freaks and Geeks/Undeclared days he was great at pushing that "Ohhhhh God this is too awkwardly real, stop it!" button, and for the most part, he still is.
I'm definitely a big fan of his. Proud member of the Apatow Army here!
Permalink Reply by Cambo on November 24, 2011 at 6:00am just going through the wiki now, I loved The cable guy and Anchorman, I thought forgetting Sarah Marshall, superbad, 40 year old virgin, zohan, pineapple express and stepbrothers were kinda cool. Haven't seen funny people yet.
the rest of them such as kicking and screaming, having fun with Dick and Jane, Talladega nights and knocked up were very meh
