If it's crap... We'll tell you

Meddle

John Allen Muhammad will be executed today at 9:00 PM EST.

For those who don't know who he is for some unexplainable reason, John Allen Muhammad, along with his protege Lee Boyd Malvo, were responsible for the Beltway sniper attacks which claimed the lives of ten completely random and innocent people, possibly seventeen, and injured three. The reason?

He was mad at his ex-wife.

Prosecutors believed that the entire thing was a plan to kill his ex-wife and regain custody of his kids, and he would use the random sniper attacks to draw attention away from himself. Malvo claimed that his greater plan though was to indoctrinate more troubled youths like Muhammad had done with him, and after training them to send them all across the United States and carry out mass shootings.

Muhammad was sentenced to death and has shown no remorse for his actions. Malvo, who was 17 at the time and could not face the death penalty, was sentenced to life in prison. Since then, he has regretted his decisions and has called the daughter of one of his victims and apologized for what he had done.

The Supreme Court denied Muhammad's appeal, meaning the only thing that would prevent his execution would be an intervention from the state of Virginia.

The death penalty is a controversial issue, but let's be clear. John Allen Muhammad is a vile man who doesn't care about anyone and would almost certainly try to kill more people if he were given the chance. He committed one of the most senseless crimes of the decade just because he was bitter, and dragged an impressionable youth with him to do his dirty work. Share your thoughts, but I say good riddance.

What in the holy fuck are you talking about? What part of what I just said isn't rational? It sounds like you didn't even read and just responded automatically.

how does gun control help?? Most of the guns gangs/criminals use are illegal anyways. All that would do is take guns away from the people trying to defend themselves, as "bad guys" can easily get them from other sources.

Yeah, gun laws work, because Lord knows criminals obey the law, which is why crime doesn't exist anymore...

I think he should be pitied and put down. But his death serves no real purpose.

I can't say I agree. In the paper today they interviewed a few family members of the victims, who said that this finally brought closure, and are now ready to move on. So for you or me it serves no real purpose, but for those directly effected by this terrible murder spree, I think it does have quite a bit of meaning.

Maybe they think it does and who I'm I to argue but I still think it's empty gratification. I've seen vengance handed out and I think it just add to the cycle but again who am I to tell people they shoudll find peace were they can.

I can agree with that.

I recall this being tantamount to the fear people in San Francisco must've felt during the Zodiac murders.
My father even claims to have seen Muhammad in the flesh just weeks before the arrests were made.
He supposedly saw him topping-off the blue sedan at a local gas station. It's probably nonsense.
My father does love to let his imagination run away w/ itself.

(I lived in Richmond, Virginia at the time of the murders, in case anyone was wondering.)

I do believe a guy like that deserves death sentence.
People who kill the innocent without any reason other then anger against the world or themselves deserves to die.

again i see that i am the only one here that seems against the death penalty.

this is because i see being given multiple life sentences in solitary confinement, with no parole, and no compassionate leave for any reason, even if you get really really sick, for example cancer but you wouldn't receive treatment you would just be left in your cell till you died of natural causes. Is a worse punishment than death

but i understand the need for vengeance so how about for crimes of this magnitude, the prisoner would receive a sound beating on a regular basis and possible used to help cull the amounts of rape in prison.

doesn't that sound worse than death i would take death over that any day.

Criminal punishment should not be about what would be worse for the offender or how they would suffer more, it's about what fits their crime and society. Before anyone says it yes, there are flaws with that a lot of time. Muhammad proved himself to be a dangerous man without remorse or pity. He deserved death not only because of the severity of his crimes but because how dangerous he would be if he were allowed to live.

Death is a quick escape from the years of punishment and waiting till you die from natural causes. I still find legalised killing odd, but that's just me.
