Hello just wondering if anybody in the spill community has day dreamed about one of the David eddings series being given the green light for the big budget treatment, or Terry Goodkind as well. Though I have to admit the time for huge fantasy movies has more then likely past us but I am sure a couple of years down the line the people will want another epic. I am just sick of this whole Harry potter thing, I know its for kids so I am not mad at it being too kiddy for me but the blatant stealing of ideas from books far superior to the bull @#$% of J K (Joanne Kathleen) Rowling is driveing me mad. She has not had one original thought yet because the kids, teens and young adults of today do not read they think she is a bloody Genius! So she just re hatchs old plots and ideas done way better in other series. I just dont understand it, none of the great books aside from the rings have been made into movies and their are allot of great books out thier that are begging to be made into a movie series.

I'd like to hear your theories on how she has ripped off people, because I have yet to notice her rip-off another writer before.

That said, I agree she does not have the greatest plot, but it is definitely a good plot. She is truly a great writer though, because she hooks you instantly into the story with her writing. I don't know how, but her writing seems to suck you in to the story so much that even children and teenagers who rarely read can't put it down. That's the secret to her books.

P.S. Could you name a great fantasy book, because the majority of them suck and I'm clamoring to find one that's enjoyable to read.
American Gods
Imajica
Discworld series
A Song of Ice and Fire series

That's several.
Wait, are you saying JK Rowling ripped off American Gods or that American Gods is a good fantasy book?

I'm pretty sure American Gods was written after Harry Potter.
I was just listing good fantasy books.
The whole wizard academy idea is very similar to Goodkinds vesion of how young wizards are taught, the main charicter (Harry Potter) is very similar to Eddings main charicter (Garion) very similar in fact. What got me thinking about this was the fact that I had not seen the first 3 Harry potter movies, my friends dragged me out to see one and hey I was interested in seeing what the big deal was. At the midpoint of the movie I knew what was going to happen and I even made an educated guess on what the next book would be like and about and I was pretty much dead on. My main point is she is not being original and it has been done before and better.

I am a big pusher in threee authors David Eddings, Terry Goodkind and David Gemmell. With Eddings I would suggest Belgarath the Sorcerer it gives you a good idea of what to expect with his style before investing in an entire series. Terry Goodkinds best work in my opinion is the first in the Sword of Truth series Wizard's First Rule and Sword in the storm is not the best book in the Ringante series but you will want to read them all from David Gemmell.
Man, I LOVE David Eddings, but I wouldn't recommend starting out with "Belgarath the Sorcerer" - you'll be spoiling a lot of the earlier books for yourself if you start there. Yes, it's sort of a "prequel", but it's meant to fill in the gaps in a character's life that we've already become intimately familiar with over the course of 10 previous books. Without that familiarity, it wouldn't come across the same way - and you'd risk spoiling surprises in the "main" series.

I'd say go the way the series was intended - start with "Pawn of Prophecy", work your way through the 5 Belgariad books, then onto "Guardians of the West" and the 5 Mallorean books. Only THEN should you move onto "Belgarath the Sorcerer" and "Polgara the Sorceress", prefereably in that order.

"The Rivan Codex", however, can be skipped - that is one seriously boring book!
Lol. Aren't all stories pretty much reusing old ideas? It's in the way the person tells the story.

Oh...and Terry Goodkind has a television series.
I have seen the ads on his website, is it on now? Might be only availabel on certain channels I guess I will have to get on DVD.
I watrch it regularly, and I've also read the books. the show is good, but based very loosely on the books. If you're angered by Harry Potter than this is the type of show that'll have you on here complaining the next day.
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh! well it was made for tv, cant put that stuff on tv right lol.
I would love to see an adaptation of Terry Brooks' Shannarra series.
So basically, you are saying.....
