Jeremy Clarkson claims airport delays could be solved with 'a bit of racism'

The BBC Top Gear presenter claimed that the long delays at Heathrow border control were because immigration officials were no longer allowed to use their discretion to wave certain passengers through.

He said: “Nobody is waved through any more. The result is plain for all to see. There’s a two-hour wait.

“And the problem is: the only possible solution is to introduce a bit of racism.”

He added: “Nobody likes a racist. Nobody likes prejudice. It has no place at work, at play, or in government.

“But at Heathrow airport? Hmmm.”

Clarkson, who is now notorious for his provocative comments, used his Sun newspaper column to wade into the controversy over passengers facing queues of up to three hours at Heathrow.

He claimed that liberal attitudes prevented officials targeting only passengers deemed “high risk”.

“You can’t get that sort of thing past the bleeding-heart liberals. They believe that … a hook-handed imam with fire in his heart and hatred in his eyes is just as likely to whip up anti-western sentiment as Joanna Lumley.”

A spokesman for the Public and Commercial Services Union, which represents Border Force workers, said: "Clarkson is an idiot."

Clarkson, 52, has a long record of making controversial remarks. He provoked a wave of complaints last November when he jokingly suggested on BBC’s The One Show that striking public sector workers should be shot in front of their families.

I love dumb people. Assume that we do start doing this, wouldn't the terrorists notice this glaring weakness in security and heavily recruit non Middle Eastern people to perform terrorists acts. Next thing you know 911 2: Electric Boogaloo. Yeah... GREAT idea you got there.

Um, I'm not Jeremy Clarkson.

I'm not certain where you're coming from here. Are you suggesting European terrorists like the 70s Baader Meinhof Gang (or other groups) will take up the slack or that Islamic extremists will start converting non Middle Eastern people to their concept of faith to the point of suicide? Like in Four Lions maybe?

I was replying to Jeremy Clarkson (sorry if it sounded otherwise) and yes, it is not ridiculous to assume that Islamic extremists would convert non Middle Eastern People; it has already happened! For example, Jihad Jane.

To clarify, I don't agree with anything in his argument. I was showing that even if we do what he says, we put people at risk. It's not about being a bleeding heart Liberal, it is about doing our utmost to protect civilians and their rights. You also bring up a good point. There are other terrorists groups besides Islamic extremists; anyone could possibly be a terrorist.

Respect sir, some very good points.

But as badly as Clarkson stated his words (and they were very poor) the fact remains that people from the Middle East are much more likely to cause another 911 event. But is this type of profiling with the racist implications and the increased efficiency worth taking this step at this time? To save lives?

The last few lines of your comment didn't make much sense so I'll just say the guy can wait in the line like everyone else. While he is in line, he can pick a non car related book and educate himself.

Thank you, I think you understood them well enough for my liking. Don't misunderstand me, I agree with you. I was just playing Devil's Advocate.

Hook handed imam? Apparently he's not only afraid of Muslims, he finds the disabled suspicious as well.

bomb makers are often missing fingers.

I'm sorry, but how can you defend this joke as a shining example of British humor? He's made a statement that isn't funny (at least out of context), and serves only to make him look like a racist and a fool. I'm not angry with this Clarkson fellow (I could give a shit less what the Top Gear guy has to say about anything), but I am slightly offended that you would defend him as a humorous person.

I understand what he was trying to do, and I understand that he wasn't "taking it all that seriously." I only commented on the "hook handed" thing because I thought I could make a little joke at Clarkson's expense; I wasn't really offended by anything he said.. If you agree with his point of view, that's your prerogative. My issue isn't that you agree with what he's saying, it's that you're acting like we didn't understand his joke and that's why we're put off. We get the attempt at humor, we get what he's saying, and we just don't think it's clever or funny. Also, I hate to question your expertise on the subject of racism, but I think that what he's saying absolutely is inherently racist. Clarkson called it racism himself. Now, I'm not really upset about that. A degree of racism is unavoidable when dealing with these matters, and as a fellow white guy I know full well that nobody wants to be called a racist, but let's call a spade a spade here.

Hey, I was just quoting a newspaper article word for word. Here it is:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/immigration/9247835/Jeremy-C...

I found it both thought provoking and amusing so I posted it up. Since this has been a popular and personally entertaining topic I'm glad I did. I wonder what you'll think of the next one, although it's much more obviously humerous.

It's great to find more people who hate FOX News as much as I do. My respect for your agreeable thoughts.

In their defence at least The Telegraph presented a thought provoking and humourous (in a non-ironic way) article.
