Jared Padalecki: the adventure continues
I have always found Cat's "Almost met Jared Padalecki" story rather amusing because supernatural is filmed here in Vancouver BC, Canada. I work audit from 11pm to 7am at night at the 2400 motel in Vancouver BC. In the past they have filmed a few scenes at our motel, one episode in particular showed motel the majority of the episode. season 1, "something wicked". Our property is 72 rooms in separate units with about four rooms per individual building. Because many of the old retro hotels are now torn down, we get a lot of movies, television series, and Vancouver film school productions; shot here.
This week Supernatural is back and setting up for more filming. As i write this, their security guards are outside my office watching the film production props. It is funny to come to work and see everything look different. They really go all out to dress up a location. The cool thing is that it is not just one quick shoot, they are shooting for the next two days, and have more shooting a few more times this month. Apparently our quaint location has become a favorite of theirs for location shooting so they want to recycle it into many future episodes.
so if you watch the show look out for our property some time in the future seasons.
I wonder if i will get a chance to meet Jared Padalecki?

wow that was a crazy and interesting night. I had six guests checking in to the motel, all with different methods, issues, circumstances. and many many complaints due to the noise. I wish i had of had more time to sit and watch the production but i was on my feet from 11pm to their final pack up and departure at 2am. My manager was there as well which i am not used to, which ramped up my adrenaline as i did not want to look bad in front of her. However amidst the chaos of trying to operate my job as normal when nothing was normal; i did have two small yet interesting encounteres with Jared Padalecki.
The first was when a fuse broke and i was hunting around trying to fix the issue, with the ancient utilities of our property. I was so busy concentrating on problem solving, I walked out of a door and lost in thought nearly bumped into him. gosh he is so tall. his back was turned but i could tell it was him by the height and the hair. walked around him on my way into another room hunting for a fuse box solution.
The second was an hour later after a few scenes more shot, when i was still busy in the middle of dealing with a complex traffic jam of guests all with complex check ins. Randomly i see Jared walk into the office and i am thinking, what the? I assumed they had their own facilities in trailers or something, but i guess not? So Jared Padalecki is in our hotel washroom and i found it quite funny. I am quite a humble dude and don't really pay much special attention to stars. Vancouver is a filming city, Hollywood north. I still recognize many of the shooting locations of Smallville and Stargate. Our motel also was featured in the X-Files episode "wet wired", years ago. So Jared emerges, when i am still trying to check in 2 groups of guests timely. He looks me in the face, i race my hand and wave and he nods. Was kinda cool. As much as i tend to act as casual like part of the crew, and think of actors as just people with fun jobs; i guess even i cant help but smile and find the whole thing amusing.
Its funny how someone famous can brighten your day just by smiling at you.
As for the episode they were filming, from what little bits i saw or herd or was told. its episode 5 of the new season. I was unaware how close to the wire they shoot these episodes. wow! I would have guessed they had episodes shot months before air time. i got to see a yellow car, i think it was a corvette or mustang or something? but i am not much of a car dude to tell them apart. they were shouting, and speeding away out of our parking lot. they dressed our building with big red window shutters which do not actually exist on our windows lol. There was a ton of props hung everywhere which made our office look odd. and there was a big neon sign placed on our office roof called "Paradise Motel". so when you see that in the show, that is us, the 2400 motel. they had a green screen, and a fence with tons of plants. Also when i got to work the office was insanely rearranged due to them filming indoors for four hours. A coworker who was working then, said it was mighty interesting all day long. Though i doubt he could just sit on his ass and watch. I half expected i could do that late at night but was shocked when i had six check ins! which is high for an average night between 11pm-1am. It was a mad rush, i was on my feet for hours.

ha ha, both are cute in their own right. though only Jared was there. the season plot has separated the characters for awhile, so makes sense ^^. i cant wait for the episode, i assume it will be aired in october. I just find it funny that i watch the characters in the show check into random motels on almost an every episode. and in real life, i actually was behind a desk checking in guests when he walked into the office to use the washroom. only thing i can think better, would be to play the clerk behind the desk in the tv show since its what i do for a full time job lol.
