Rather than the prototypical badass, Jack Reacher had layers: Not only was he intimidating, he was smart, witty, and wasn't obnoxious. If I had any faults with the Jack Reacher character, it's that he didn't have faults.
Now, let's get down to what I'm making this discussion about: the bad guy. When I saw this film, I paid attention but there were points where I definitely missed something. These are either plot holes or a fault on my end. Either way, I need someone to help fill in the blanks.
1. The Zec (hope I spelled that right) - How was he connected to Lebendauer? All I got was he is some bad guy, who for whatever reason has a bunch of henchmen to do his evil bidding and I don't know how or why.
2. Emerson - Why was he helping The Zec? When asked by Helen why he was doing what he was doing, all he said was that he had no choice and that she "will see" why.
3. The Henchman Leader - You know which one, the pretty boy with five o' clock shadow. Absolutely no back story was given for this guy other than he was posing as friend to James Barr and that he's a pretty good sniper. For most of the movie, it seems like he is the primary villain over Werner Herzog's character.
4. Oline Archer and Lebendauer - Finally, how are these connected to Emerson and The Zec? Oline doesn't want to sell off her husband's business, so the bad guy shoots her and 4 others. Then what?
I'll be going to see this one more time while it's in theatres mainly to fill in these blanks, but until then, anyone care to chime in?
