I've been out of the comic loop for a while. Suggestions? (Marvel.)

Hey all.

Midway through Dark Reign I kind of dropped out of comics completely, due to being busy and the cost of keeping up with several trades at once.

I was wondering if its worth picking up the rest of Dark Reign, getting Siege, or just skip them entirely. I want to get back into a few trades, so I need to know what's good and not.

Thanks in advance!

Well I don't know about what's been up with Marvel lately, but if you want some good trades I'd recommend picking up Irredeemable by Mark Waid. It's published by a smaller company but it's about the world's greatest superhero snapping and becoming the world's greatest supervillain. So now all of his former comrades are trying to figure out any kind of weakness they can find to take him down. It's pretty good so far.
That is one thing that pisses me off about the Sentry. How the hell do you get Alter Reality powers from an overdose of the super soldier serum? I never understood that.

Luke cage, Isaiah bradley, Union Jack, Patricide, Josiah X they are all peak out humans that will have brain disorders when they get older and this crackhead gets to be Akira.
Huh?
He's talking about Sentry fake-assed "backstory". Apparently the Sentry got his powers from some kind of super-soldier serum (yeah I know it's mainly psychic now...yawn...)
Oh, I was just more confused because it showed up as a reply to my comment, which has nothing to do with Marvel. Not hating or anything, just struck me as odd.
LOL
Ok I have been following up on marvel. I would only say if you like where Dark Reign was going then go ahead and pick it up. I actually enjoyed it. Some people got killed I didn't expect at all. I didn't collect the entire Dark Reign cause when it got to Doctor Strange and Brother Voodoo then it gets kind of gay but I am not a Doctor Strange Fan so that's just me. The main core of Dark Reign is really good. The main problem I have with it is that like House of M and Civil War is that they have an interesting plot with some people and then they go nowhere. You have no idea what happens them or how they jump in the next plot.

The Seige is not bad but you have to be a Sentry fan to get into it. He steals the show. I do feel that the story is just falling apart at the end though and I'm starting to lose interest cause the spotlight is on certain people and there is no follow-up with another plot that is happening on the side

There is also X-men: Utopia where the Dark X-men fights the X-men and the X-men moves to Asteroid M. Magento joins the X-men. Then there is the Necrosha story where is basically Marvel' version of Blackest Night. I like that one better than Blackest Night but then again I am a marvel fan and barely a DC fan. A few people die in that one also mostly useless people that just hung around the X-men series just because.

Then there is X-men Second coming. I am not intersted in that one. One is because Kitty Pryde is coming back. But how they bring her back is gay as hell. Plus it also finishes up the Messiah war storyline. I think it's going to also bring back once again Jean Grrey. In a way they kind of did already with this Hope Summers peorson. Really the X-men stories are really going downhill. I hang on to them cause I like how Cyclops is really getting hardcore and kind of turning into Magneto in a way.
Uh......Deadpool...................................................I just realized I don't really buy much of Marvel anymore. Still, buy the Siege hardcover whenever it comes out.
I'm a minority on this site that's been digging on the majority of Dark Reign. Certain Dark Reign tie ins are inconsequential but extremely fun. I'd recommend Dark X-men (after reading the Dark Avengers/X-men crossover) Sinister Spider-man, and Dark Reign: Ares. Along side reading Dark Avengers and maybe New Avengers (I've been able to keep up after dropping New) you'll be all ready for Siege. Siege I've been really liking and can't wait for the last issue
Do yourself a favor. Skip the whole damned thing. It's a mess right now and you need to read too many titles to get into it. Wait til the trades come out and read up in a bookstore.

The Walking Dead is a good series to try out right now, since it's about to become a TV series.
Also if you want to pick up some GREAT Marvel comics, pick up Marvel cosmic. Guardians of the Galaxy, Nova, and Inhumans have been really good. If space isn't your thing definitely try Incredible Hercules. Incredible Herc is an epic and hilarious ride. It just ended but the stories continuing in the new ongoing 'Prince of Power'. Agents of Atlas was on par with Incredible Herc and crosses over with it. Agents of Atlas ended a while ago, but has done two minis that were really good. It's returning soon as well
'
If you see SIEGE in a trade, I'd pick it up, it's a surprisingly tight and well-told story. Bendis actually writes some action.

Shocking, I know.

Despite being Dark Reign tie-ins, SECRET WARRIORS by Jonathan Hickman is amazing, as if of course AGENTS OF ATLAS (soon-to-be-renamed simply ATLAS).

And you can't really go wrong with Marvel cosmic like the ANNIHILATION and ANNIHILATION: CONQUEST minis, NOVA, and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.
