People say its the scariest movie ever.
I think its just another movie like the blair witch project. I'm sure its gonna scare people that believe in this stuff (kinda like the exorcist) but thats about it. I just can't see how some moving sheets, footprints and the ouija board are scary.
but what the hell do i know? I'm scared of a damn doll.
just tell me what you think.
As a Christian myself, some of this stuff would scare me, and I don't want to be in the same room w/ an ouija board as well. But I really don't believe in ghost, I think they're apparitions and tricks conjured up by Satan and his demons. A soul only has two ways to go Heaven or Hell, not stay put on earth.
Anyways, this movie would probably be more about jump scares than anything else, and that stuff kinda shocks me, not scares so I might pass on this one.
I haven't seen it....but when I heard about it, it just seemed like a movie all about jump scares. Like all of a sudden there's a loud bang and it supposed to shock everyone.
It's a bit unfortunate when scary movies are only concidered to be scary when they're targeting people of faith. A movie should be scary because of the general premise and how well it brings you into a state of suspending your disbelief. Even though I'm an atheist, I still watch certain thrillers/horror movies which revolve around the subject matter of religion and still get pretty freaked out (The Exorcist, The Exorcist III, Ninth Gate, Devil's Advocate, Poltergiest, etc).
I just don't think people need to have prefatory statements like "as a Christian" when discussing whether a movie should scare you or not. If a movie didn't scare you because you don't believe in ghosts, then the movie did something very wrong along the way of showing you that the idea of something you don't believe in can still be scary as shit.
You make a good point I don't think religion should have anything to do with it being scary or not. I just happen to think this movie might scare me as much as an episode of Ghost Hunters. I might be wrong, hell i hope i'm wrong and it makes me piss myself.
Don't get me wrong, I've never seen Paranormal Activity so I have no idea whether it's scary or not. My remark wasn't in any way really about the movie, just about the concept of people being scared or not on the basis of their religious affiliations. To be honest, it looks like a really dumb movie.
I know, you thought this was done already, but with 2010 coming and new nominations starting next month, It's time to read the 2009 winners
