Slender Dan posted a statusMy son asked me the other day if he thought we’d ever get to see Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League. I told him probably not since anything that awesome could only have happened in the 80’s. His question did get me wondering, though. Stallone’s Rocky and Rambo returns, Terminator Salvation, Die Hard 4, Crystal Skull. All movies that I really enjoyed the earlier film but didn’t care for the delayed companion piece anywhere near as much. Even the most prominent example of of a prequel addition to a franchise, Star Wars, suffers criticism.
Could it be that sometimes there’s just too much water under the bridge to expect a good sequel? Have you got any examples of a sequel the came out after a long gap that left you with the feeling you got from the earlier film? Should I keep telling myself Prometheus is not a prequel, just set in the same universe?
Permalink Reply by Mr. E on April 5, 2012 at 12:58am In my opinion, after you get past the amount of time where almost none of the people who were involved in the original are interested, or would even fit the parts anymore, it may be time to just re-boot rather than do a sequel.
I would rather see a reboot of a franchise I held in high regard fail then a sequel to it that was supposed to be canon for the film I loved.
I'm to tired to think of any examples at the moment, but that's the answer my sleep deprived brain is spitting out at the moment.

As soon as I read that word the theme music popped into my head. I only watched Daktari and Johnny Quest for the music.
