The Spill.com Movie Community

If it's crap... We'll tell you

Today's events made me notice quite a few....not so super things lately. I remember Spill being so much more fun when it had fewer members, and technically less activity... Discussions were more fun, were more intelligent, and everyone always had something interesting to say.

I blame myself in no small part thanks to the shistorms that have been going on... I haven't exactly made an effort to lift the community, but at the same time, it just...sort of feels like an exercise in futility. No on gives a shit...hence, I tend to not care so much either...

The funny thing is, I'm noticing this with not just Spill...but way too many other sites as well. I'm gonna humiliate myself with this confession: I used to be a big contributor in the Kingdom Hearts community once upon a time; before Kingdom Hearts II came out, and all that. I helped out various sites, and I noticed tighter communities, better discussions. Even those embarrassing "Kingdom Hearts theories" you all know and hate today used to be so much more....interesting!

And not just Kingdom Hearts. Metal Gear Solid, Halo, anime communities, and TV show sites... Everything is regressing. Even though we have more things before us than ever, we're regressing rather than progressing... There are like what, THREE new Kingdom Hearts games coming out. TWO huge MGS games... Fan have more things to be excited about than ever before. More things to talk about, and more interesting and not-retarded theories regarding the subject matter to discuss... Yet, they're more bored than ever. They're creating troll accounts, inviting n00bs, or just flat-out not thinking straight...

And on Spill...no matter the movie, everyone is a cynic and baseless critic. "This movie has Nick Cage, therefore it sucks!" Do I have to count the number of times I've seen shit like that? No one is really even bothering with logic or reasoning anymore...

Internet communities used to be fun. Now....it's all so...serious, or just plain stupid. Internet...what the hell has happened to you...? >_> Anyone got a coherent answer?

No, I was implying that Q is NoShoes...

oh well that's incredibly obvious. He's admitted to me in the past that he has multiple accounts on here. That was before he decided to be a total fucker and go all sociopathic on people.

I passionately disagree with every fiber of my being, everyone that was commenting two-three years ago is commenting now more or less, and in that time we have gotten so great members who have contributed to the site.

Iagree that the discussions have gone down hill, much like you cat video thread or 'whoah what's going on' thread. i don't blame you for the drop but seriously dude if you are complaining about the quality of threads you have a weird way of trying to improve them.

I think some of the previous posters are suffering from a case of nostalgic myopia. From the time I found Spill, this has been a place where nearly anything goes. I had a look back at some old threads for comparison and wasn’t really surprised by the number that quickly degenerated. It’s been like that for the past year at least. Personal convictions are attacked while speculative castings of the next Batman movie were lauded, all by detached caricatures of humanity. Ethereal libertines, unfettered by the trappings of actual contact. In this climate, why wouldn’t you find absolute idiots and trolls? I never understood why trolls bothered everyone so much. Usually, the substance of their posts amount to nothing worth more than a cursory glance. It's only when their need for attention gets to the point of desperation (offering handjobs and the like) that I ever really consider them more than an unfortunate inconvenience.

Also, I can’t believe the bellyaching I’m hearing from grown-ass men. Maybe I’ve got a different perspective because I didn’t have much experience in forums like this (or at all, really) before Spill. Here are a few survival tips I’ve picked up through my rough upbringing on the mean streets of Spilltown. First, not everyone is out to get me. Next, when I find a thread I’m interested in or a comment I’d like to reply to, I post. If someone is trolling, I’ve worked out (through a complex series of mathematical equations) that it doesn’t eliminate or even take away from the legitimate posts on the topic. I just don’t reply to their posts if I don’t feel like it. Threads which get buried can easily be found HERE. It takes a couple of clicks but they’re all still in there, I assure you. And although it might annoy some, the replication of these “best of” and “your favorite” lists will continue as long as there are new members who have a desire to find out more about community they’re now part of. Do any of us go to new members’ pages and suggest they don’t create these posts? That they use the search function? Do we caution them on the differentiation of fact and opinion before setting them free in the forum?

If it really gets to the point where the forums are beyond the bounds of your sensitivities, go. Although your contributions to the site will be missed, your mental wellbeing is more important. Perhaps one of these new forums HERE or HERE or HERE may suit your new lifestyle.

This is common on many forums, especially popular ones like Spill. Many times boards will run into the problem of the top posters gushing over each other where they claim they're veterans of the forums that if anyone ever questions or disagrees with them they're told to stfu and leave.

Fortunately, since this forum has a large number of posters, the site doesn't have to worry about running the risk of stagnation as it can still attract new members without it being entirely populated by internet 'veterans' who treat it as their own private circle-jerk.

Hah...It didn't take long at all for this thread to get killed...

Man, I tried. I really did. You can't say I didn't.

Whether it'd be a decent discussion, or something funny like Mycenia or NoShoes propping up, all everyone is interesting in here is throwing shit at one another, and suspecting one another. It ain't even funny what a crock of bullshit that is...

This site is dead. At least for me. I don't see why anyone should bother anymore.
