The Spill.com Movie Community

If it's crap... We'll tell you

Today's events made me notice quite a few....not so super things lately. I remember Spill being so much more fun when it had fewer members, and technically less activity... Discussions were more fun, were more intelligent, and everyone always had something interesting to say.

I blame myself in no small part thanks to the shistorms that have been going on... I haven't exactly made an effort to lift the community, but at the same time, it just...sort of feels like an exercise in futility. No on gives a shit...hence, I tend to not care so much either...

The funny thing is, I'm noticing this with not just Spill...but way too many other sites as well. I'm gonna humiliate myself with this confession: I used to be a big contributor in the Kingdom Hearts community once upon a time; before Kingdom Hearts II came out, and all that. I helped out various sites, and I noticed tighter communities, better discussions. Even those embarrassing "Kingdom Hearts theories" you all know and hate today used to be so much more....interesting!

And not just Kingdom Hearts. Metal Gear Solid, Halo, anime communities, and TV show sites... Everything is regressing. Even though we have more things before us than ever, we're regressing rather than progressing... There are like what, THREE new Kingdom Hearts games coming out. TWO huge MGS games... Fan have more things to be excited about than ever before. More things to talk about, and more interesting and not-retarded theories regarding the subject matter to discuss... Yet, they're more bored than ever. They're creating troll accounts, inviting n00bs, or just flat-out not thinking straight...

And on Spill...no matter the movie, everyone is a cynic and baseless critic. "This movie has Nick Cage, therefore it sucks!" Do I have to count the number of times I've seen shit like that? No one is really even bothering with logic or reasoning anymore...

Internet communities used to be fun. Now....it's all so...serious, or just plain stupid. Internet...what the hell has happened to you...? >_> Anyone got a coherent answer?

there have been alot of answers, but, is there really a solution, i'm wondering? we obviously can't make someone who isn't even in the same room with us (mush less the same continent) straighten up their act.

and i am sad to say that i have only contributed to the "stupidity" of discussions, and for that i apologize.

as a recent member to this site..which i was recommended by a friend as he knew my love of cinema..and the tagline "...if it's crap, we'll tell you!!..." did appeal to me...but maybe my problem was that i'd had no previous experience of forums...don't own a computer etc..so as i see it..the more a thing grows in popularity..the more diluted it becomes (extremely biased example...metallica)...which leaves the originators feeling aggrieved..."this site was better when it had less people on it..." isnt this elitism?? my only "solution" to this is to have a sort of pop quiz, which i've come across on other film sites, when you join...this is ALSO exclusionary but at least it would "weed out" timewasters...

I hate you.

Since hate is relative, would you care to clarify?

Do you hate him more than your father's inapproprate touches and less than your mother's neglectful denial of the situation?

Am I in the ball park?

I say we should welcome the unwashed masses. dumbasses tend to make me feel better about myself

I refuse to welcome unwashed masses. Not until they've at least washed first. Have you ever been in a mass of unwashed people before? It's like being at a hippy-convention, only without the good drugs.

Unwashed masses without drugs......Do you mean Comic Con?

Or a Magic tournament

I here that the stench there can seep through your skin and smother your heart.

Hey, that is a wicked stereotype.

Just because I'm at a Magic tournament and am unwashed doesn't mean I'm not on drugs!

It's an issue of personal responsibility. Like in life, there's going to be people online who will say ignorant things and attack people from time to time. But in the time I've spent on this site, short as it may be, I've encountered nothing but good people and fellow movie lovers.

Was I watching the same movie everybody else was watching? I couldn't possibly have been watching the same Avatar as everybody else. People are raving about this, calling it "revolutionary" and "a milestone in filmmaking." All I saw was an unorigina…
