The Spill.com Movie Community

If it's crap... We'll tell you

Today's events made me notice quite a few....not so super things lately. I remember Spill being so much more fun when it had fewer members, and technically less activity... Discussions were more fun, were more intelligent, and everyone always had something interesting to say.

I blame myself in no small part thanks to the shistorms that have been going on... I haven't exactly made an effort to lift the community, but at the same time, it just...sort of feels like an exercise in futility. No on gives a shit...hence, I tend to not care so much either...

The funny thing is, I'm noticing this with not just Spill...but way too many other sites as well. I'm gonna humiliate myself with this confession: I used to be a big contributor in the Kingdom Hearts community once upon a time; before Kingdom Hearts II came out, and all that. I helped out various sites, and I noticed tighter communities, better discussions. Even those embarrassing "Kingdom Hearts theories" you all know and hate today used to be so much more....interesting!

And not just Kingdom Hearts. Metal Gear Solid, Halo, anime communities, and TV show sites... Everything is regressing. Even though we have more things before us than ever, we're regressing rather than progressing... There are like what, THREE new Kingdom Hearts games coming out. TWO huge MGS games... Fan have more things to be excited about than ever before. More things to talk about, and more interesting and not-retarded theories regarding the subject matter to discuss... Yet, they're more bored than ever. They're creating troll accounts, inviting n00bs, or just flat-out not thinking straight...

And on Spill...no matter the movie, everyone is a cynic and baseless critic. "This movie has Nick Cage, therefore it sucks!" Do I have to count the number of times I've seen shit like that? No one is really even bothering with logic or reasoning anymore...

Internet communities used to be fun. Now....it's all so...serious, or just plain stupid. Internet...what the hell has happened to you...? >_> Anyone got a coherent answer?

Dude. I fucking admitted that I'm at blame too. I'm not excluding myself.

I USED to respect the site. I still WANT to. Yet with attitudes like yours, how can ANYONE?

Attitudes like mine??? You mean people who wont kiss your ass and wax nostalgic over halcyon days that never existed like this is some kind of KKK rally???

Maybe it's time you gave up the martyr routine.

Half the threads Q makes is him just crying and whining...... stop crying fatty.

q tends to be a dramaqueen in these kinds of situations. i´m not jumping on a bandwagon, i´m just being honest. sorry q, the forums are what you make of it

You know something, I'm shocked at myself for even putting up with this crap as long as I did. If you all really, seriously think I'm her, then my time on this site was fucking wasted since day one.

You cocksuckers can all go to hell. I'd like to say something like "I'll be back when you all grow the fuck up.", but I know that's asking for WAY too much.

I'm just ashamed in myself that MDS saw the light before I did.

Wait a minute, why the hell are you the only one that everyone thinks was NoShoes?

NoShoes called out more people than just Q. She called out Chig, Lab Rat, Berko and countless others.

If you're going by that logic, Chig could have been NoShoes.

And am I the only person who thinks that creating another account to make yourself look good is so retarded that the most stupid of people would not do it?

I see it doesn't take long for people to do the things that have been upsetting me lately.

Thepropayne: My exact words were "We were noticed as the "Top Dogs" on the site due to our contributions and discussions". Clearly the use of "Top Dogs" was intended to indicate active and participating members. Never once was the usage to indicate someone being better or superior to anyone else, other than active and participating. Does it shock you to learn that YOU are one of the few that I would call a "Top Dog" as well, due to your participation to the site? Yes, there is a hierarchy with this site, like there is with ALL sites. Highly active and participation people will be held in a "higher regard" than those that are just lurking/trolling. They will also be "highly regarded" above people that occasionally/rarely contribute as well. It's not a personal opinion regarding one's own importance. It's the site's noticing and in some cases praising those people who continue to be active and contribute. How many times have you heard user's names on podcasts being noticed by the Spill Crew? How many times have they talked about Chig or Predator, or Nick Hodges, or Podbaydoor, or Travis Pickle, or (yes, myself) MDS? If you are able to get the attention of the people in CHARGE of the site and be noticed for your efforts and activity, you WILL be in a higher echelon than "your typical user". And that attention from the people in charge, will put you in the "Top Dog" category of people NOTICED. If that's good or bad, is up to each individual to decide.

As far as your claim to not have seen the things that I was complaining about in the last nine months, I direct you to a prime example: Here is one were Imaxcinema comes out of nowhere and attempts to start a fight with the comment made about Christians in a blog concerning just a single movie, and AGAINST the intention of the blog itself. Here is an example of where a movie review was passed over to start debates about the historical facts, but NOT the movie. While you might not see the things degrading into a "Conflict", I sadly see it all the time. Or at least I see people overlooking the MOVIE-aspects and want to debate something unrelated to the MOVIE that was being mentioned. Or worse, focus on one comment (Group of words, or cliche) and hound that part into the ground.... just like you and others have in this thread with the cliche "Top Dogs". I have tried to keep those types of things "out of public eye" by using people's pages for comments. Sort of trying to keep it private. But even Here is an example that doesn't involve me. It was brought to my attention by Bdiddy's comments in a podcast. Interesting isn't it? Someone like Bdiddy has never been "extremely active" on the Forum discussions, yet she has been active on people's blogs and comment walls. When someone that doesn't normally focus on the forum threads notices that it's degrading to personal attacks instead of topic attacks, and mentions it in a podcast, it must be happening and getting noticed.

Sav-vy-bag, Supermanx1, Meatwad, Iron Man, Ace, Superkavi, Kizmania:
I love all you guys for different reasons. All of you have made me laugh so hard, my ribs were sore. Yet, at the same time each of you have completely ruined a thread or a discussion by coming out of nowhere and destroying the "mood" of a conversation. I'm not saying that is a bad thing when the discussion SHOULD be destroyed because of where it's heading. But lately, I see one of your comments and I know that the main focus of a topic is going to be forgotten, and turned personal. This thread is a great example, as it turned into a personal attack against Q himself, and NOT an attack on Q's topic. Not saying that you are all doing this type of thing ALL THE TIME.... I'm not saying that. I'm just saying that by doing it in THIS thread, shows that it is going to happen by someone (Even if they aren't listed here and are DIFFERENT PEOPLE).

And that my friends, is the problem that I have lately. It's that someone will come in and turn the discussion against the PERSON, and not the topic's main issue. Which brings me to...

Jon, Chicago's Mindfreak : I couldn't agree with you more when you said "if this forum has done anything it has made me think more about every post I make on this site."

It has come to the point where I'm almost afraid TO make a post because I know that somewhere, someone, somehow... its going to be degraded TO the levels of 4chan, and a fight will break out. It's no longer a question of "Will it happen", but a question of "How long UNTIL it happens"? And to me, that's the sad part. It's not that it might happen once in a blue-moon, or maybe only if a certain user shows up like Flesheater. No, it's now to the point were it WILL happen.

Guy Behind the Guy: I don't know. I honestly, don't know.

I'm not sure that it can be changed, or how to do it if it was possible to change it. All I know, is that I've decided to "step back" and not get worked up about things by trying to ignore the site's forums. And while I do miss it, I've found a bit of peace of mind just listening to the podcasts and the occasional blogs. But, at the same time I still see the things that have upset me, and it makes me want to become "active" as I was (maybe more so) with a harder-edge and becoming a right-out bastard.

Which is why I don't want to continue to be as "active" as I once used to be. It's come to the point where no matter the topic, no matter the movie, no matter the person that started the Thread. Sooner or later someone is going to ignore the thread and start attacking people for no reason other than to try and attack a person. Now, don't get me wrong. Some threads (Such as Who's the next Batman Villain) deserve to be attacked as a thread, and some users like Flesheater deserve to be attacked. But really, do we need it to happen in EVERY blog or forum-discussion?

These are three eloquent young gents. They philosophize, externalize, and harmonize on the most pressing subjects of the modern age. Actually, they mostly just talk about movies and current events, but the presentation is what counts, right?
