The Spill.com Movie Community

If it's crap... We'll tell you

Today's events made me notice quite a few....not so super things lately. I remember Spill being so much more fun when it had fewer members, and technically less activity... Discussions were more fun, were more intelligent, and everyone always had something interesting to say.

I blame myself in no small part thanks to the shistorms that have been going on... I haven't exactly made an effort to lift the community, but at the same time, it just...sort of feels like an exercise in futility. No on gives a shit...hence, I tend to not care so much either...

The funny thing is, I'm noticing this with not just Spill...but way too many other sites as well. I'm gonna humiliate myself with this confession: I used to be a big contributor in the Kingdom Hearts community once upon a time; before Kingdom Hearts II came out, and all that. I helped out various sites, and I noticed tighter communities, better discussions. Even those embarrassing "Kingdom Hearts theories" you all know and hate today used to be so much more....interesting!

And not just Kingdom Hearts. Metal Gear Solid, Halo, anime communities, and TV show sites... Everything is regressing. Even though we have more things before us than ever, we're regressing rather than progressing... There are like what, THREE new Kingdom Hearts games coming out. TWO huge MGS games... Fan have more things to be excited about than ever before. More things to talk about, and more interesting and not-retarded theories regarding the subject matter to discuss... Yet, they're more bored than ever. They're creating troll accounts, inviting n00bs, or just flat-out not thinking straight...

And on Spill...no matter the movie, everyone is a cynic and baseless critic. "This movie has Nick Cage, therefore it sucks!" Do I have to count the number of times I've seen shit like that? No one is really even bothering with logic or reasoning anymore...

Internet communities used to be fun. Now....it's all so...serious, or just plain stupid. Internet...what the hell has happened to you...? >_> Anyone got a coherent answer?

I wike pickles. guess I'm not the coherent type.
But I saw something once that made me realize that the internet is a place where people are generally free of pressure to be themselves, and thus feel no need to personifacate their being into the vast immenseness that we call the net. This is why so many people lose their control and become overpowered by the malevolent forces of stupidity and ignorance. It's not that they wish to do so, but the masks that they use are momentarily gone, and they make the most of it. So basically your trying to deduce why people abuse freedom.
I's brush upon that, but I think I've rambled enough for now.

Kind of related but not really..

I'd just like to say that I don't buy the whole "the internet reveals people's true personality" thing. I think the internet exaggerates the worst in people, but it doesn't represent it in reality. Most of the internet fights occur between two people who would probably have no problem with each other in real life.

It's less of a "I can be myself!" so much as a "Fuck it. Why NOT be a douche?"

I said the exact opposite. I said it allows people to be without their true identities and exercise their irrational and inhuman traits.

Maybe it's you (us, me, whatever, RAHH!!!)

I think as I got older, I realized how stupid the stuff I talked about on all these videogame/movie/whatever forums was, and just felt ridiculous for ever being so absorbed in it in the first place. Maybe not the answer to your questions, but that's what the internet feels like to me looking back. When I just had to be the best Unreal Tournament 2k4 player ever... sigh. Dark times. Dark times.

I think the internet makes a person feel important....having their posts read, their videos seen, their sites visited; in short it is their chance to be famous in their minds.

And who do we have as "famous" role models? Critics and opinionated talking heads, in large part. Mostly focusing on the negative as well, for that is easiest. Movie critics, sports critics, politico-critics...sure, they'll mention things they like, but they'll indulge in what they don't. It's following a blueprint, if you ask me, all the "this/that/he/she sucks!" kinda thing.

In some ways it's Western World Cultural. I had a near epiphany a while ago, suffering under the weight of several bottles of hard liquor, and I was geeking around on the yootoob checking out all kinds of music. I like a lot of Spanish music and it's easy to find there. The comments (in Spanish) under the music was almost entirely positive: thanks for the song, that musician is great, this music is awesome. In practically every English song, though, the comments sections were chock full of rants either against the musicians or other people's comments.

I think once this whole bitter/spiteful critic craze blows over things will calm down. I refuse to simply blame the youth of today, for truly, where'd they learn it?

The site seems bloated. Bloated with nonsense, and every variation of "Your favorite Movie!" that you can think of.
I don't know what the site was like before April 2009, but from what you and other members have said, it was a whole lot better. I'm kinda bitter that I missed out on the Golden Age, or whatever.
And no offense to the guy, but when Serj, Spill's Octopus, the joker, is the voice of reason and is calling out the bullshit, you know something's up.

Bloated...that's a really good way to put it.

Q, you are wrong. There is nothing wrong with this site. I do not know about those anime sites because I have a tan, but I am thinking that there is nothing wrong with them either.

You are just a little grouchy because you had a long day and it got you all tired.

This is not the first time you have made a discussion like this. It is not even the first time you have made one after you got chewed out.

I am not here to make things worse, but you need to fucking stop with these "back in the good ole days of spill" discussions. I love Spill as much as ever, and to think that in the off chance that Korey will read what you wrote and actually give a shit what you are saying does a pretty good job of pissing me off.

These ruts you keep falling into are your own damn fault. I showed up on this site about the same time you did, and you don't see people feeling the need to justify some wrong that I have caused.

Quit acting like things have changed

You just LOOOOVE to blame everything on me, don't you? All of a sudden, change is completely my own imagination because of a crappy prior thread.

Or maybe you've failed to see that your very post right here and now is what I'm talking about... Dude, things changed. Including you. Including me. You deny this, you can just as easily deny Carlyle being a Michael Bay fan. Just be aware that it's self-denial.

And stop friggin looking for any chance you get to snag a clean headshot of me! Makes you look like some creepy ass person with a pointless vendetta... This thread isn't about me, and it isn't about Spill in it's lonesome. I'm talking about shit in general.

So, some bullshit happens today. Creepy person makes creepy thread. Chig blames it on me. Some assholes jump on the bandwagon. I get them off. And all of a sudden my vision of what, 2 years now is suddenly skewed? Your accusations are preposterous, uncalled for, and completely unnecessary. If you have a problem with me, feel free to rape my comment wall. Please don't destroy another topic. Especially one that's heading in a pleasantly good direction with intelligent posts. If you hadn't noticed, we don't get a whole lot of those lately these days...

I am doing nothing other than disagreeing with you.
Trust me Q, if I wanted to bring the payne, I would bring the payne.

This response is not for just you, Q. I know that it may seem that I jump only on you, but it is not some sort of revenge I am trying to get or anything. Just wanted you to know that

You say that things are changing, and with that I guess you have a point. Nothing stays the same, and yet here we are having a discussion that I have seen before.

Has anyone that has been here for over a year that thinks this site is becoming different sat down and thought that maybe it is in your head?
This is a community, so yes people are going to come in and try different things that we may or may not agree with. These people come.......(and here is the kicker).........then they go

Why?
Because this site is overall the same as it was and will not change to one person's wants.

Do I hate those lists as much as you Q? Of course. But, I know they are just part of this site, and make therefore make the good discussions that much better. I know the ratio of good to bad is a little off recently, but that is what happens when fall starts. We are getting a higher amount of a younger crowd typing from the library.

Makes the good discussions better? The problem is, if those good discussions aren't buried by the dozens of lists, then they're shot to shit with spammers and trolls like NoShoes.

That wasn't so much the case before. That's proof that things changed considerably. Hell, I'm shocked no idiot stormed this thread yet, or that it's not buried yet.

I don't want to gloat in glory or anything, but this is by far the best discussion I've seen on this site to date. Not to thanks to me, but thanks to everyone getting down to the same level, and having an intelligent discussion out of it. You too. You just got to the groove as well. :)

It proves that we can have what we had before if we just care enough. Personally, I think the dumbshits have gotten to us. And I do not exclude myself; I have numerously, infamously stated that I don't give a shit. The dillema here? I want to care. I still love this site, man, and I don't wanna completely give up on it, you know?

Of course crap gets me down. It gets a lot of people down. The trick is getting back up. And quite frankly, I'm tired of making "copout threads" when something bad happens. Henceforth, I ain't involving myself in anymore of that nonsense.
