I like a lot of what Tarantino does but I'm no fanboy;  like most artists at such a level he has some great stuff, some good stuff, and some crap.  I re-watched Inglourious Basterds yet again the other day because so many of my friends insist that it's better than I have ever given it credit for and I realised why I don't - and never will - like this movie.  It's the casting.

Brad Pitt just isn't believable from his hokey, awful accent to the overall interpretation of the character.  He just doesn't seem "hard" enough.  Then there's Eli Roth cast as a big meanie and he just doesn't have the face or the screen presence for it.  Add in goofy BJ Novak and the rest of the "Basterds" and that crew just doesn't sell me whatsoever on indulging in the fantasy of the film.  Of course, Waltz and the girl were perfect, but I honestly think if it were made with a more fitting cast I might be able to dig the movie but as it stands it ranks with me as one Quentin's mis-fires.

Eli Rith not have the stage presence. Did you see him cave in a guys skull with a bat?

While I didn't hate this movie, I didn't think it was that great either. I'm with the Spill crew I give this one a Matinee. My problems with it is that the story is bogged by film references and as much as I love film references in a story (big fan of Community) it should not slow the movie down. It was just wasn't as great as everyone made this out to be, except Waltz who stole the movie right under the cast members' noses, although Fassbender was pretty for a red shirt guy.

Since I found Pulp Fiction to be kinda meh, I was surprised by how much I loved Basterds.
