If it's crap... We'll tell you

I have always felt that independent films were an elite part of the film world. Yes it's where some people get their start but now it seems to be more commercialized. They have big name actors associated with indie films, which as a consequence could bring in a bigger budget. Isn't the whole premise of an indie film that there is next to no budget, unknown actors, and a story that might not appeal to the masses? Once an indie film makes it big does it lose that initial quirky charm it had? Those are my questions. Discuss!! ;)

Where there are wannabe's, there will be indies.

What are you insinuating?
That all indie filmmakers are "wannabes"?

Do you mind elaborating on that statement?

I wonder if the porn was independently funded?

I agree.
For instance,
if a movie like Slumdog Millionaire wasn't as popular as it became then I'd probably fancy the film more.
That 'underrated factor'.

And I really don't care if film(whether independent, or not) becomes more commercialized,
as long as filmmakers like Ryan Fleck and Ramin Bahrani continue to do what they do, I'm fine wit' it.

The idea that independent films are an "elite" part of the film world is what makes me hate independent films.
The entire independent scene has become saturated with smug pretension.
Nearly every director is bending over backwards to show off how tragically hip they are while their actors pretend to be above the Hollywood system but can't wait to sell their own grandmothers for a chance to be in a major studio picture.

Movies should be judged by their quality, not by which studio did or didn't finance them.

That's why I love filmmakers who choose to cast no name actors, and actresses.
Not only will you not get that "above the Hollywood system" vibe
but at times a more realistic portrayal.
