I recommended Game of Thrones to my parents.....
..... and at this point I'm wondering if that was a good idea.
*** Spoilers ***
Obviously there's been sex, violence and horror in Season 1. But in the second season all three appear to have been ramped up.
Episode 2 contained back to back sex scenes at one point as well as Theon's horse ride with his sister.
Episode 4 definately moved firmly into horror bordering on torture porn, and not being a fan of that genre I found some of the scenes quite unpleasant.
I'm hoping the quality of the characters and story will keep them with it and that the sex and horror elements don't get any more explicit. I'm going to have to warn them again, Downton Abbey this ain't.

My mom loves it. She has read all the books after seeing season 1.

I had a conversation with my mum on the phone earlier on this topic among others. Seems my parents are loving it too (they're most of the way through season 1).
Since my parents are in their mid 70s I suspect they're closer in age to your gran than your mom.

It's up there with Deadwood and Breaking Bad as one of my all time favourite series. As you say, fucking awesome.
