Jack O'mally posted a statusI see a lot of people up in arms about this SOPA stuff and, being the dimwit I am, can't work out how this is going to change the way I use the internet. I thought some examples of how you'll be affected might help me understand how this evil act will kill the internet, not only for me but for the world.
Help me out, Spilldos. I want to share in your outrage.

Is that really a government we wish to emulate?

Come on, Jon. I think you know better than this. Don't just jump on board with half baked crap. What judicial proceedings do you think take place prior to a site being banned in North Korea?
Permalink Reply by Jon, Gallifrey's Mindfreak on January 1, 2012 at 10:31pm Like I said, I don't think it is a government we should emulate in any way possible.
You gotta understand, Lab Rat. I'm a big supporter of net neutrality, and I don't think SOPA is going to help keep the internet neutral in any way shape or form. Not to mention I've recently discovered that the technology that would be used to enforce SOPA is completely useless. Someone recently put up an add-on for Firefox that would bypass the blocking.
So in actuality, SOPA is going to provide absolutely no protection from piracy and will only serve to hinder internet businesses, especially those like Channel Awesome or TeamFourStar which rely on parodying or reviewing copyrighted material. I don't know how SOPA is going to affect the laws of Fair Use, but I can't imagine it would be good.
I just feel it's a bunch of bureaucratic bullshit that isn't going to help anyone. Not internet businesses, not the government trying to enforce piracy laws, not the companies that are trying to protect their material, no one.

Permalink Reply by NeonKazma on December 19, 2011 at 4:21pm Of course i don't believe in SOPA. I just posted a thought on what could happened to the Tumblr website if SOPA passes.

Permalink Reply by DoctorWitten on December 21, 2011 at 4:43am The idea the government will shut down or even substantially harm sites like Yahoo, Youtube, Facebook, or Google more because of SOPA is ridiculous.
As Lab Rat mentioned, how does this infringe on fair use or existing rights?
plus, you actually think a multi-billion dollar corporation Google doesn't have its own lobbyists on capitol hill?
If it will be as sweeping and damaging to the internet as ya'll claim, won't people take to the streets? it's not like as if only nerds and hipsters use the internet, and everyone else is 'sheeple to the MS TV media' if something as bad you claim were to happen, people WILL take to the streets, or you know, vote everyone in congress out of office.
And also, do you actually think the government even has the capability of doing something like this? that's Alex Jones talk.
