Permalink Reply by Mo-Mo on April 2, 2012 at 12:16am while it may seem a little cliche stephen king has a few very good books. IT was good but went on a little to long if you can find his collection of short stories you'd be a better off
Permalink Reply by Alter_Ego on April 5, 2012 at 2:10pm House of Leaves is one of the scariest books I've ever read.
Permalink Reply by Bree on April 6, 2012 at 12:27am 'Heart-Shaped' by Joe Hill. I read this in eighth grade and it still freaks me out till this day.
Permalink Reply by Timmy Cupcakes on April 12, 2012 at 8:13am i liked the book, it showd some true potential by Hill as a writer. My one big complaint is that they reveal far too much early in the book. Hope you picked up 'Horns', it was written a little better in my opinion.

May I suggest Day by Day Armageddon? I forget the authors name, but it is an excellent little book.
Permalink Reply by steven cowie on April 12, 2012 at 5:20am It depends what you want, purely from your avatar, maybe some Shaun Hutson, as he's quite gory but basic. King's stuff is ok, Salem's Lot is a different beast to the films etc. James Herbert's is quite shocking in places (pre "The Magic Cottage" anyhow)...but il dare to mention H. P. Lovecraft, as he is MY favourite, though it may be a bit florid for younger folks cough cough.
Poppy Z. Brite/Dennis Cooper (well, i think it's horrible haha)/Richard Laymon/Guy N. Smith also have their highlights. You don't mention whether you've read the staples? Frankenstein, Dracula etc?
Permalink Reply by Timmy Cupcakes on April 12, 2012 at 8:16am 'Summer of Night' by Dan Simmons was pretty amazing. It has a little bit of an 'IT' feel to it, but an unfamiliar story. Personally I want to read more Stephen King, my limited experience with his writing has left a slightly bitter taste in my mouth due to bad endings, but everthing else in his books is just so damned good.
Permalink Reply by Id0ntknow on April 12, 2012 at 3:37pm Stick to his short stories and novellas. They're his best work by far. Go read The Mist, great little story.
Permalink Reply by Timmy Cupcakes on April 13, 2012 at 11:47am Good to know, I'll give it a read.
