Yeah, but from the Japanese perspective, unless stated otherwise, the characters are Japanese through and through. It's more than how they look. Goku being from another planet doesn't execuse him from looking Japanese. If he was looking different, or Caucasian, in the anime, surely he would have been considered a gaijin(outsider)?

Thank you for mentioning what people haven't been saying, Universal Guardian. You might as well create a new concept instead of horse riding the Dragonball manga series. However, my sister said that they remade J - Movies like the Ring and The Grudge without the main characters being Asian but I mentioned that at least they stuck to the storyline of the movie. Dragonball: Evolution not only diverses from the original storyline, but leaves you wondering why they named it Dragonball in the first place, regardless of what ethnicity the characters are (which, in my opinion, still baffles me). Anyway, they can suck my Dragonballs

Having a white guy play him wasn't the end of the world, the film could have been cool. But it was a bad sign, and people assumed it would be crap.Normally people shouldn't jump to conclusions, but sadly, it looks like they were right to do so this time. Everything about it looks bad.

Yep! I even tried watching it like I didn't know the source material and it still sucked.
The actress portraying Bulma seemed like she was trying too hard to capture Bulma's high pitched annnoying voice.
Chatwin would have been better off being Gohan. The whole high school thing is proof of that cause Goku NEVER went to school other than driving school, as the fans of DBZ would know.
Chow Yun Fat as Roshi was awesome to me until he stopped being goofy.
Piccolo, not enough screen time or back story.
I could go on! Biggest flaw, the whole film feels rushed. Add that to a poor script and you've got a boring movie such as this one. At least this film would entertain me more than Disaster Movie or ANY other film made by those two jackasses Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer.

Also, on the anime he doesn't even look Japanese. Only a few of the characters look like their from that area of the east.

First question...do you watch anime regularly? Because it is MUCH more than how they look. The bulk of Japanese anime have so many cultural things and jokes from Japan that either most of it fly over our heads, or we would be too confused to understand it.
Many characters considered white by your casual American or other nationality outsider, because of their blond hair, are Japanese(such as Naruto, and Ichigo from Bleach). The blond hair is often used to make the character unique to the audience, or contrast with other characters.
