I made this post specifically to spread my HATE for Dragonball Evolution. All in agreement say yes and state why you hate it or didn't think it lived up to it's potential.
Except that facts are facts. Dragonball is from Japan, created by a Japanese writer.
I think it is a matter of knowledge, really. If you see Dragonball only as a dub, then you would see it as white. If you know about its origins, and watched anime generally, then you would know the character is Japanese.
A black James Bond wouldn't work for me...but a black original character as a secret agent?

God you are SO FUCKING WRONG....
Goku is the MONKEY KING... which by definition is:
The main character in the classical Chinese epic novel Journey to the West. In the novel, he accompanies the monk Xuanzang on the journey to retrieve Buddhist sutras from India. Sutras are defined as literally a rope or thread that holds things together.
Just by the fact that Goku IS the Monkey King is a sign that he is really suppose to be Chinese and NOT Japanese. You are bitching about a character that is already OUT of his racially known background being changed again.
That's like bitching that E.T. is cast as Chewbacca and then recast as Alf. It makes NO DAMN SENSE to be bitching about the casting choice of a character that is ALREADY cast/drawn improperly to begin with.
Sun Wukong is the Monkey King, if you want to get technical.
And what the hell is this debate? Now Goku, a character INSPIRED by Sun Wukong in JOURNEY OF THE WEST(who was a villain) is now supposed to be Chinese?

As far as the movie goes.....
Well, poor acting. Bad writing. Shitty special effects. Lack-luster performances. Zero concern for quality of the end product.
I'm sorry, but this just goes to prove the point that no one actually CARED about the source material at all. This was simply put out into theaters because Sony KNEW ahead of time that Dragonball fans have NO sense to determine "good/bad" products and will be willing to pay to see the movie just because of the NAME alone.
Serves every single one of you Dragonball defenders right. The REAL anime fans that have been enjoying the stuff from the 60's-80's have been saying for YEARS that Dragonball would be (or was) the downfall of quality works of animated material from Japan and would be detrimental to the WHOLE industry because it would loose credibility to produce QUALITY works that would be based on it's OWN standards and not compared to a KID'S SHOW.

(To AcE!)
I see what you're saying. If you deviate from the source material by leaps and bounds, some people would have a problem. Some people don't like change, while others do. For example, black president.

I don't think ALL live-action movies that uses Animated Movies/Series/Shows as their source material are destined to fail, we just have to wait for a competent writer.

Writers don't matter. It's taking the PERFERRED tool of telling the story (animated) and changing that story-telling tool (live-action) to RETELL the story that was already told.
Once again, it's like using a HAMMER to screw in a screw into a piece of wood. While it's possible to do so, it will always be less effective than using the SCREWDRIVER to do the same job.
