I made this post specifically to spread my HATE for Dragonball Evolution. All in agreement say yes and state why you hate it or didn't think it lived up to it's potential.
If i remember correctly, that Spiderman also has a Spider-Robot, got his powers from an alien, and essentially an entirely different character from Peter Parker. It begs the question...why not simply create a new character or concept?
Dragonball is from Japan, and created by a Japanese mangaka for a Japanese audience. It's seems a no-brainer, if you want to authetically recreate the story on the big screen, to have a Japanese actor in particular, or an Asian actor in general. Getting a white actor is lazy, and recreating the story is basically telling a new story...why not create a new concept and story?
But whatever is right. If you haven't watched anime, you would not understand where I'm coming from.
I do watch anime, read manga, but the old school ones. 60's-90's. My favorite anime/manga are Lupin the 3rd right now and Fist of the North star (Hokuto no Ken).
But anime/manga is NOT my life. Its just a part of it.
Same here. But think about it...do you really consider those characters in the old-school ones, white? Espically Fist of the NorthStar, whose main character is named Kenshiro, who is an homage to Bruce Lee?
Uhmmm, ok. But I really don't see the big deal about race. Even IF Goku was Asian in this movie, it wouldn't change for what it is. If we get an asian actor, we need to know if he can ACT. Unless your telling me all asian actors are better then any Black/White/Latin/Etc actors....
Its not only about the actor race, its how he acts. We can get an asian actor to play Goku, but that doesn't mean the movie will be good unless he knows how to ACT!
Sorry, but it's not that simple. You can probably get the best black actor in the world, Denzel Washington, to play Superman, and it would not work. Hell, it should not work, because of the obvious race differences. The same here.
It's not about which race can ACT better...it's about the character in and of itself. If James Bond is played by an Native American, it is NOT the character as the white Englishman(or a white man playing with a post British accent). Pocahontas played by a Korean actress? Malcolm X portrayed by a Russian. It would not work, and it should not work, because race, just like other factors like social background, nationality, religion...all part of what make unique and strong characters.
You're getting ahead of yourself, King Sexy:). Let's cast the right race first, then we worry about the acting.
