If it's crap... We'll tell you

For this halloween i watched the original halloween movie for the first time and it was HORRIBLE. There is so much wrong with this movie, SO many plot holes:
1. How does Mike Myers overpower his sister 13 years older then him? How does he strike hard enough to kill her? Why is there only a small amount of blood on mike's knife?
2. After 16 years of being locked in a room how is he so built? How does he lift up and strangle that teenager who seems fairly strong.
3. When Mike is "killed" by Jamie lee's character she tells the kids to go to the police or something they just jog out of the house and then when they're outside there sprinting and screaming at the top of their lungs.
4. When ever jamie lee's character sees mike myers like in the clothes line she stares at mike myers and doesn't blink but when the camera cuts back to mike myers he disappears...... So Mike myers vanished into thin air?
Also this movie has lots of scenes that have absouelutly nothing to do with the movie and are pointless like when the babysitter who TOOK HER PANTS OF AFTER SPILLING BUTTER ON IT!!!!!!!! gets stuck in the window of a shed because she got locked inside a shed! WTF! All the teenagers look like their 30 years old and are atrocious actors, i've always said that good acting can make up for a bad storyline but a good storyline can' make up for bad acting, this movie has neither. Listening to Mike myers breath was hilariously bad but so annoying after a while. Also even though i like the theme music it is over used, unlike friday the 13th and nightmare on elm street themes that start just before the villain comes in halloween the theme song goes for the whole scene.

Some Ol' Bullshit

You don't understand anything....

"gets stuck in the window of a shed because she got locked inside a shed!" Well that's a tension creating scene.

"When Mike is "killed" by Jamie lee's character she tells the kids to go to the police or something they just jog out of the house and then when they're outside there sprinting and screaming at the top of their lungs." She told them to go to the 'Mackenzie's' house, and if you're a child who witnessed a psyco come after you, wouldn't you be screaming?

"After 16 years of being locked in a room how is he so built? How does he lift up and strangle that teenager who seems fairly strong." As said in the film: "He is evil himself" Some believe that it is scarier of a man being smaller yet stronger.

How bout you go take a shit on Citizen Kane now? If you want to watch a bloody movie with tits and no tension, go watch the remake.

There was no tension whatsoever in the scene in the shed! It was there just for eye candy. And just because he's described as evil himself it doesn't make him actually EVIL HIMSELF!!!! Also Citizen Kane is a flawless masterpiece, this is anything but. If anything this movie is about tits not tension, The fact that Mike Myers sister is killed topless makes no difference in the film other then being eye candy. Also when the girl gets stuck in the window there is not enough time or atmosphere to build tension but there is time to show a shot of her ass. And the reason she took her pants of and paraded around the street and the camera as eye candy is because she spit butter on her self!

Well i loved it.
How is he so strong? well he's not really human, he gets shot multiple times at end, and he's still alive.
How is he so fit? well first of all there's plenty of free time to do exercise while locked up for 16 years, and some people are naturally built (if he's in fact really human).
I think that the fact that you don't know so much about him makes it a better movie.
Sure I've seen scarier movies, but i think that is one of the best horror films ever made.
One other thing this movie has the best music in horror film in my opinion.

I see we you are coming from, i guess i'm so used to better effects, better acting and a better storyline. I'm sure if i was to watch it in 197 it would have been a lot scarier. Also it's mentioned that Mike Myers for nearly the whole 16 years just starred blankly into the wall.

Maybe you should watch Rob Zombie's remake and compare them. You'll find that Rob Zombie's remake is completely full of holes!! After all, Mike Myers was twice as big in Rob Zombie's. he looked like the frigging undertaker!! John Carpenter's movie was a masterpiece for it's time because it created fear and unknowing. The music that you say is overused now, was the staple for the film. If you had been there when it was released you would understand how much of an impact the music had on the film. halloween was great!!

I also watched it for the first time 2 weeks ago. I thought it was genius, but I have to agree on some points, there was some scenes where they were trying to create tension yet you just thought i twas ridiculous. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed it, many of the scenes actually just made me say "Oh Shit".

you mention friday 13th (today!!)..which was a cashin on the success of this film..this was the blair witch of its day etc ie low budget movie becomes surprise hit...you just seem like the archetypal film snob...horror fans have had to put up with this shite for years...go and check out saw, if you want something with NO TENSION whatsoever that is....

Im a massive horror fan and i despise saw..... There was suspense in Halloween i won't deny it but there were scenes were it was trying to build suspense it just failed.

there's a certain sustain of disbelief.if don't accept certain things in a movie you'll criticise everything

I agree but this movie just is on a whole another level when it comes to suspending belief.

For me, I love the visuals and the great acting by Jackie Earl Haley, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Patrick Wilson. There are other reasons, but these are the ones that stick out the most for me.
