If it's crap... We'll tell you

Just saw the movie and it was great, but theres a lot of stuff i didn't understand. I've decided to see all the movies before I read the books, so please dont spoil the last book when if you answer this question. Like I said, I didn't understand a couple things in the film, but the thing I found most annoying is how the whole "Half-Blood Prince" plotline had not presence in the story at all until the end. That really bugged because its in the damn title. They only threw that in there for the simple fact that it is the title. but anyways I have no idea what that means. Can anyone tell me without spoiling the next movie?

The prince part of the nickname comes from the maiden's name of Snape's mother, which was Eileen Prince. The Half-Blood part was, because, i believe his parents were "mud-bloods" which is an insulting term to wizards with muggle and wizard families.

I am not sure about the last part, but the first part I am pretty sure. I can assure you that this doesn't really spoil the last movie, so don't worry :)

Snapes mother was a witch and his dad was a muggle. Because of the crowd he hung out with, he favoured the Half Blood side of himself, so he ditched his muggle fathers name and went by the magic half of his family, just like Voldi

im assuming you read the books. what sort of significance did that have to the overall story, if any?

Without spoiling anything, Snape is a very important character whose significance will make sense in the final book. To be honest I dont know why its called the Half Blood Prince.

Each name pretty much goes for a key point in the story. Half-Blood Prince kind of suits it, since, you're basically left clueless as who could Half-Blood Prince can be (movie omits Hermione doing intense research on it).
You're left with this twist (identity being revealed to be Snape) after Dumbledore's death by his hands, the irony of this name (Voldemort likes pure bloods, not half-bloods in the case of Snape) and where the name comes from.

You're better off reading the books than trusting the movies; the movies have done a bang-up job on the plot.

yeah, I agree. If you want to understand all the minor details than the books are the way to go.

Since Korey mentioned the party in LDT, I decided to post the link to the party here just in case anyone would like to come and join us. The group has the whole schedule and if you're interested in coming, I'll post some links to good hotels down ...
