If it's crap ... We'll tell you
I’ve gotta say that my favorite thing about music is actually the lyrics. I usually have no idea what most songs (especially rock) mean, but I still enjoy the weird, mysterious feelings they convey. Even if lyrics aren’t all that important to you, I’m sure most of you have lyrics you fucking love. What are they? And don’t worry if they sound weird or don’t make sense out of context. Here’s some of mine:
“I wanna live, I WISH I WAS DEAD!!,” from Black Flag’s ‘What I See’
“Raised in Carolina,
I’m not like that.
Trying to remind her,
When we go back,” from The Strokes’ ‘Hard To Explain’
“All our lonely kicks are getting harder to find,
We’ll play nuns versus priests until somebody cries.
All our lonely kicks that make us saintly and thin,
We’ll play nuns versus priests until somebody wins,” from The National’s ‘Little Faith’
“If being wrong’s a crime I’m servin’ forever,
If being strong’s your kind then I need help here with this feather,” from The Replacement’s ‘Swingin’ Party’
hello my baby hello my honey hello my ragtime gal
God damned those half Japanese girls.
I like my sugar with coffee and cream.
Spinal meningitis, smile on baby Jesus, spinal meningitis got me down.
My landlady said 'you got that rent money yet?' I said 'I aint got no job, therefore I aint got no money to pay the rent', and out the door I went.
The ugly tattooed swingers euphemise and call there mucky hobby trysts, but if I saw another man touch you I'd break his fuckin wrist.
Come to daddy, come, come to daddy.
I too have sung death's praises, but i'm not going to sing that song anymore.
If there's a word for you, it doesn't mean anything.
The world that you need is wrapped in gold-silver sleeves, left beneath Christmas trees in the snow.
In this life like weeds, you're a rock to me. I know where you're from, but where do you belong?
No one ever knows what you're talking about, so i guess you're already there. No one opens up when you scream and shout.
