Golden Globes 2011: What did you think of Ricky Gervais?
I thought Ricky was amazing up there! I was laughing hysterically at the stuff he said. It was so cool how he wasn't kissing the celebrity's asses but instead totally mocking them. Especially the Robert Downey Jr. joke. That was so good! It's too bad that he called it "mean spirited". I didn't even think he crossed the line. He was too far away to cross the line.

I've always been a fan of Gervais' hosting. His dig at Mel Gibson last year (PRIOR to Mel Gibson's rant later that year) was hilarious and I enjoyed him this year as well. I didn't see the jab he made at The Social Network, but I've heard that apparently that's one of the areas where he supposedly went too far. If it was, should that matter? Did these people not hear Robert Downey Jr.'s brief bit? It's all for laughs.

I thought he was good. The celebrities complaining that he was "too mean" are just pussies who can't handle a joke and are too used to having their asses kissed all the time.

Hollywood needs to not take itself so seriously sometimes. They are so used to getting their ass kissed by everyone. The whole point of any movie awards is basically so the movie business can give themselves a pat o the back and celebrate how special they are. I think they should sometimes get called out on it's faults so maybe celebrities can start thinking before doing some of the stupid shit they do.

I don't believe what the fuss is over about. I'm not a great big fan of Gervais but it's not like he started calling everyone a cunt or fuckface (though, that would've spiced up the evening a bit).
What got me upset the most (other than the fact that I sat through this self-absorbent event) was that one Social Network's producer's speech where he said something like, "...being 'elite' shouldn't be something to look down upon, but something to aspire to..." I just thought that was such a pompous thing to say. Screw that guy! Screw him and his money!

Ricky started off hysterical as always but when he told the audience about Robert Downey Jr. hard past before introducing him on the stage and called Steve Carell ungrateful. I thought he started to go a little bit too far.
I wished that Robert Downey Jr. and Steve Carell punched Ricky Gervais right in the face. They both looked so ticked off and embarrassed.
