If it's crap... We'll tell you

I hate what theyre doing with the new GI JOE movie, I dont think I need to enumerate the reasons right now, many of you share the same opinion...

here's a comment i made in one of the news earlier that i wanna discuss further with a discussion thread

WHO SHOULD HAVE DIRECTED GI JOE?

ACTUALLY, I think Michael Bay would do a better job with this movie than on Transformers
& he would be MORE appropriate for this project than on Transformers

(Believe me, I also HATE Michael Bay in many many ways, but hey, I feel reasonable enough to give regard to his visual style. He's an asshole jock, yes, but he does know how to make action. Just put a leash on him, or give him something appropriate to his style. In this case, GI JOE)

I believe that the failure of this upcoming GI JOE movie is that it seems to attach itself too much into fantasy
Michael Bay, is more comfortable with stuff OUTSIDE fantasy (The Rock, Bad Boys)

If you listen to the commentary on the first Transformers movie, Bay has initially expressed disgust for the Transformers project coz he felt the concept of these robots was childish (may not be the accurate words, but somewhere around that line)

IMO, a good GI JOE movie is one that would be more grounded in reality

PLUS, Bay works closely with the US Army & they love working with Bay because he "makes them look good"
Bay's connection with the Army plus his ballistic style (copied from Woo, I may add)
are elements which I believe may be a BETTER GI JOE movie.

In addition, there's even a sequence in T2ROTF where it should've been appropriate for a GIJOE movie

Just give him a good writer, at least a decent one, & Yeah, don't forget to put a leash on him

Michael Bay really shouldn't direct anything.

People say he's good at action? So are a lot of directors. In fact, a lot of directors aren't good at shooting action but still make better action movies than Bay.

...

I was going to bullet point all of the things that people say Michael Bay does well, but I ran out at one. I guess that proves my point. He doesn't deserve any project. His obsession with the army would make him a better fit for a G.I. Joe movie, but it still wouldn't be a good movie so why bother? He'd butcher any kind of good script with his so called humor.

Actually, nevermind. If a concept as stupid as a G.I. Joe movie is greenlit, might as well give it to him anyway. It's fucked from the beginning.

...but then there's Pearl Harbor.

Hell, after Saving Private Ryan's beach landing, give the job to Spielberg.

Isnt Spielberg to blame for Transformers along with Bay? Not as much as Michael Bay, but he was the executive producer....

Us Transformers fans got our dissapointment, Dragon ball fans got theirs. Now it's you G.I Joe fans get yours!

Yeah, I can see that. Although, I think Uwe Boll would have done a better job. Go watch Tunnel Rats, it's actually better then anything Michael Bay directed recently.

Michael Bay should be co-director just for the explosions... Apart from that someone needs to keep Michael bay in a bubble so he won't infect any movies with his Bay virus.

Just give a short leash to a select group of hardcore GI Joe fans to bring us what the whole series is about, like, a movie to answer "What the hell is GI Joe, because it sounds so sleezy.. GI Joe...". Even if it ends up in the typical action movie sequence department, I am sure it could work with a nice story/plot.

PS: Not a fan of GI Joe, the closest I have ever been to GI Joe is probably the big action figures they used to sell in the 90s.

G.I. Joe means Government Issued "Joe"

Back in World War 2, this term came about because everything in a soldier's life in the field was "government issued" to the point that it seemed the soldiers themselves were government property as well. We (Americans) called them "Joe" by many of our foreign allies, like we called the French "Frogs" and the British "Limeys" so GI Joe was a term that meant "US Soldier."
