If it's crap... We'll tell you

One of my friends and I have recently been on the search for a movie that is genuinely terrifying to watch. Not just scary or horrific, but a film that as you watch you think "What the shit have I got myself into here?" A film that draws you into the situation the characters are going through and makes you as a viewer feel threatened and uncomfortable.

There has only been a couple that have come remotely close to this IMO i.e. Martyrs (2008 French Horror) and perhaps "Them", but only in parts; close but no cigar. Also, [REC] is up there in terms of realism.

Obviously what taps into people's fear can vary but DO YOU THINK THAT SUCH A MOVIE COULD EXIST, OR HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED ONE?

I don't think there can ever be a movie that's scary in the sense that you actually feel threatened while watching it. You may be tense and worried over the characters, but I wouldn't classify that as "scary." That's just tension.

Actually, movies did have that effect on me when I was like 4 years old, but once you're old enough to handle the intensity of horror (or even something like the street scene in War of the Worlds which still made me a little uneasy), I don't think movies can do the trick anymore.

agreed. at a certain point you become ..no longer stupid enough to forget that its a movie.

we'll see about that when we get some genuinely well scripted and shot 3d horrors.

i guess what we're looking for is a film that ramps up the tension to a point whereby you're genuinely apprehensive about what exactly is in that darkened room, or what's around that corner, the sort of film that has you uneasily scoping out your surroundings afterwards.

I have watched plenty of very well done horror movies.
But you know what, terrifying movies today do not exist what so ever, they are all really stupid. I do not know why its like that right now in the horror industry, mabey its because every single freaking movie now is PG-13 or because writters now are just not trying anymore. Like Wes Craven for example, he is just putting out crappy movies just for to take in some cash, he does not care on how well done his films are now.

Really if you think about it horror (and I mean terrifying movies) is mainly dead right now.
I have alot of thinks on my mind right now on today's horror films; pretty much of them coming out in theaters are crap.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers was PG, and that movie is still creepy and unsettling. I'd say if anything, the R ratig becomes a bit of a crutch.

Tons of it scares me now that I think about it.

*The part when they say Harry Potter should be put to death

*This kid's mullet

*How scary the woman is

*When the woman calls the children phonies and tells them to embarrass themself in front of everyone.

*The Jesus rap

Hell the only thing I like is when the little girl is break dancing to the heavy metal, and when the little boy stands up in front of everyone and states his doubt in god (Island of Dr. Moreau moment)

that movie was quite scary.

My favorite part is when the little girl is praying for her bowling ball and she throws it right into the gutter.

Lol it is funny yet sad.

What a sweet child, yet she is shunned by her fellow children because her parents have taught her to be push her beliefs so hard.

What about how they make the children preach. How does a child have the experience to teach others?

BTW..... remember this guy. (5:32)

He is their leader

First off, let me just say that I haven't read the book, so I'm not going to compare what happened in the film to what happened in the novel. The Lovely Bones, Peter Jackson new drama, follows the death of Susie Salmon and the life of her coping…
