The Gambler of Fate. posted a statusI went long back and listened to the Falling Skies Review the Spill crew did and it was brought up that there are many beloved TV shows that had less than stellar or shitty first seasons. The Office, The Simpsons, Star Trek: The Next Generation, etc. are examples of this where the production team are going through the process of figuring out what works and what doesn't work in their show. I personally felt the same way the guys did with the first couple episodes of Falling Skies, but as they kept going on and now three episodes in the second season, I'm loving it. But that was because there were a few things in the beginning that kept me intrigued enough to want to see how it keeps going.
I guess the question is, knowing that there have been patterns where beloved TV shows had meh or bad first seasons, how much should people expect of a first season? Should it be held to a high standard in the beginning (either be clear and interesting otherwise GTFO) or should it be allowed chances for the development team to try to find their footing?
