These few days while doing college work, Ive been listening to lots of film commentaries playing in the background, so the big question I have to ask is . . . . .
What is your favorite film commentary? hell this does not even need to be film, it could include TV.
heres a few that i like . .
Anchorman - The Legend of Ron Burgundy
Fight Club
Hellboy
Tropic Thunder
Step Brothers
Hunter S Thompson in the Criterion Edition of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas!!!!!
This commentary is amazing. For the most part he doesn't talk about what is happening on the screen, it just his secretary and the producer (or was it executive producer) asking him questions. Through out the ocmmentary he wigs the fuck out (much like int he movie when he randomly makes wierd noises). He also answers his phone at one point, then puts the dude on speaker and talks to him about the movie. I'm telling you, it is a commentary like no other.
I just love the commentaries to episodes of "Firefly", I don't know if it is the best but it is definitely one of the most memorable ones.
(Though I did listen with greater enthusiasm than normal since I totally fell in love with the show)

@ Timmy Cupcakes: I agree, damn that Hunter S Thompson commentary was amazing.
I always liked:
Ghostbusters 1: with Ivan Reitman, Harold Ramis (and a third guy) that was very entertaining, and I'm a Ghost Buster's fiend anyway, so...
Black Snake Moan and Hustle & Flow: the commentaries by Craig Brewer. "Hustle" was his first film, and "Moan" was shot soon after, and he approaches it and talks about them in a very frank way about how both films came about. It's a great look into the creative process, and the struggles that come with trying to produce a story.
All Commentaries featuring Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and/or Nick Frost. These guys are my heroes, and every commentary I've heard from them has been (1) insightful look into the project (be it Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz or Spaced) and (2) Funny as HELL.
The "Spaced" commentaries on the US release include a "cast" commentary, which features the main cast of the show (hilarious) and also with new US tracks, which feature Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes along with a guest commentators like Kevin Smith, Patton Oswalt, Diablo Cody, Bill Hader (and a few more guys... can't remember who at the moment)
I'm sure you all know of the Judd Apatow movies. Every single movie commentary has been great and gave me great laughter just listening to the guys bullshit as much as they do.
If you want great commentary, go rent the Futurama dvds.
They're hilarious! Some times as funny as the show. They're also insightful but mostly its them goofing around talking about funny stories during the making of the ep and its aftermath (they bag on fans lol)
Legends of the Fall
-its similar to the Fight Club commentary because a lot of it is the Director and Brad Pitt just talking about the making of the film, the different actors, and the difficulties. Its very laid-back.
Scooby-Doo
-not the greatest movie, but im a Scooby fan and that commentary has all of the main cast there. And it also makes me love Matt Lillard even more. Hes freakin hysterical.
For me, I love the visuals and the great acting by Jackie Earl Haley, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Patrick Wilson. There are other reasons, but these are the ones that stick out the most for me.
