If it's crap... We'll tell you

Hey I'm not sure how many readers they are on this site, but I decided to post anyway so I could get an accurate response. (I posted this on other forums too). Anyway is it bad to have fight scenes in novels? Like sure theyre some but in the ones I read they aren't very long- at most 1000 words. Personally I think its a little disappointing they don't milk the action but I guess books arent for that purpose -_-

Like for example in harry potter the fights are few and not very long. And in vampire hunter D they're alot of fights but theyre pretty swift *much like the movies*

So my question is are they any novels u know of that have long fight scenes? And do you as readers or fans of other media like/ hate long fights in books?

You are right about that. Lots of sci-fi/fantasy war epics have characters going into battle just to kill people and then come back as heroes. But the fighting in Ender's Game really does effect him psychologically and emotionally and shapes him into a three-dimensional character.

Battle Royale the novel by Koushun Takami.
Loaded with fighting and much better than the movie.

ive read the manga and it was PHENOMENAL Man that stuff changed my life. Ive been dying to find the novel but I havent been so lucky *_*

Can u tell me how long are the fight scenes in there? Like a word estimate- 1000-2000 words? (4-8 pgs?)

I mean the manga scurmishes with kuriyama were detailed and wow :| Never watched the movie don't plan to either (even though its load better than the ripoff condemned >_<)

I'm loaning it out at the time so I don't have a word/page count, but every fight scene is detailed enough that you never feel unsatisfied (More than half the book).
I don't know how well the manga was adapted, but the movie was trash in comparison. I'd hunt it out if I were you.
Look in the Sci-Fi section of a Barnes and Nobels or Borders under Takami.

Read Blood For The Blood God. The fights there are quite good.

in the book Warriors of Ultramar, there was a massive (at least that's how I remember it) battle between the Ultramarines and a Tyranid swarm.

I like a lot of Tamara Pierce does a great job on fight scenes. There always seems to be one come out of nowhere like how most fights are. (especially in books where a war is taking place) Usually intense. I wouldn't say long but very enjoyable. Especially in her Protector of the Small quartet.

ok thanks for the reply guys I'll be sure to check out your recommendations and read these books. I already benefited from reading Ender's Game- friggin awesome. I've also found some novels with plenty of action in them; like the Dresden Files (which is like Harry Potter for adults) along with some other books like Gears of War (yes from the game) and even Golden Compass.

Anyway thanks for the replies ^_^.

I know. I KNOW this is so dated, but to be fair, we recorded this in mid November and it apparently took awhile to edit. Listen as I attempt to defend Potter against Twilight's main fan base; did I fail or did I succeed? This is something my school'…
