My favorite title has gotten a complete re-boot, and is being released as a movie trilogy. I often gush about how much I love this series, but always know, it's not something that I can just casually recommend to some one, as the pay off comes from watching the entire show from start to End of Evangelion, and that's a VERY long road to travel, for casual interest. But the buzz is, this new 2.0 movie is fantastic, and finally, I feel I have something I can point to, and say, watch this because it's awesome!
Now my only concern is do I wait for it to come here, or break down and hit the Internet for a download.
ProtoEva00: Actually, it's going to be a 4-part series. I say wait for it. Because internet downloads aren't going to be good quality and this is a movie that demands good quality video for a decent viewing. Have you seen the first part of the reboot series, You Are (Not) Alone?
I have in fact, but it was a while ago, as a pretty crumby copy. Was unaware of the 4th installment. They just barely showed 1.0 dubbed edition for the first time, at Anime Expo a few days ago, and thankfully, Calgary is one of the cities they will be playing it in theaters, but I have to wait till the end of September. Oh well. Just wasn't going to bring it up as "news" as it was officially released a while ago, and the north American release is staggered. Still, for others interested in the big screening of the movie 1.0, here is a city listing of when and where the movie is coming out.
As much as I loved this series when it came out in the 90's, I really wish they'd give it a rest already.
After the way ADV milked every bit of money out of anime fans that they could with the constant re-packaging, re-dubbing, re-mastering, re-coloring, and re-boxing of the series, and now this re-boot, it feels like they're just bleeding a stone for all its worth.
I also heard that only about 40% of the material in this re-boot is new, and the rest of the footage is taken from the original series.
I know, it's not really all THAT new, but from my perspective, I'm trying to show people that haven't seen it already, how great it can be. The tv format really hurts it's appeal, so formatting it into a movie just makes sense to reach a broader audience.
That may be so, but this reboot is also a chance at redemption for the show: Name me any one of Eva's endings; then tell me they aren't absolute shit. Yeah, it can be a bit of a pickle to pinpoint such an ending.
With the track record, I ain't holding my breath, but I'm trying to be hopeful.
Lol, so true. Another reason I can't recommend the original so broadly. I edit it in my mind, by watching the original movie, then the moment they enter Lilith, I substitute with the last 2 episodes, and upon congratulations, go back to the real world. God, the things they ask the audience to do are completely unreasonable, but I still love it.
Unless that "broader audience" learned it's lessons FROM the TV Shows and realize they aren't really doing anything "new" with the storyline overall, just giving a "prettier" face to it. Like Q says, it's a great series that got SERIOUSLY hurt by the constant shitty endings.
First off, I don't have the DVD so don't expect me to review any of the special features about the movie. I watched a rather good copy of it online and thought "What the hell, I should write a review."
