No, being a rated R movie targeted specifically at the younger people has absolutely nothing at all to do with people having to buy the tickets to a PG-13 movie to sneak into that Rated-R movie at all. That's absolutely unheard of. (snicker)

Okay, let's be honest... Uh, yeah in this case the "Rated-R" rating REALLY hurt the chances of Kick-Ass to earn money. In fact, if it was a PG-13 movie I'm sure it would have trashed Dragon at the box-office. But nope, they specifically wanted to keep the language, violence, drug references and sexual references ("I'm not gay" type of stuff) in the movie and have paid the price in lower box-office figures.

However, just the fact that Kick-Ass is only getting an estimated $20 Million? Wow, talk about a movie that is specifically targeted to ONE core group and lacks any form of "mass-appeal". If the movie is actually good or not, is something that I'm not talking about at all. I'm simply pointing out that a $20 Million opening weekend is sort of weak for such an "anticipated" movie.

I'm really disappointed that Kick-Ass didn't do better. Its definitely not a flop, its already made its budget back worldwide in one week. I hope it sticks around for awhile. It pains me to see Clash of the Titans, The Bounty Hunter and The Last Song doing better than this.

Yeah, has anyone else here seen the documentary on the film ratings and the MPAA called "This Film is Not Yet Rated"?

It's really interesting. Movies are rated by 10 parents in California, and there are really no guideline to how movies are rated, the group of parents simply vote. It's bullshit.

I feel bad that I couldn't buy a ticket for Kick-Ass. I really liked the movie and wanted to pay for it. I guess I"ll buy the DVD to make up for it.

Whats really cool is that they actually changed the appeals process, making it easier for filmakers to get their Nc_17's dropped to R, directly because of that movie. Zaxk and Miri was one example where smith lobbied that movie down to an R which would not have been possible under the past guidlines.

Rambo 4 and Kick-Ass now have two things in common. They're both movies that got screwed at the box-office because of kids buying tickets to a PG/PG-13 movie and sneaking into this one.

That and they both have kids being brutally beaten.

I think another thing to look at is that how big did they think this movie is going to be? I mean, I want to see it but did they expect what a $30 Mil open? the movie only cost $30 Mil and will make back it's money or more next week. Rated R movies get screwed, especially one like this but at least it was a hard R. If they are going to do these kind of things and like Box Office Mojo, saying that Kick Ass was a failure... they need to police these sort of things better so people don't sneak in and effect the market. That or just them watch a fucking movie... I mean, whats the worst that could happen?
