If it's crap... We'll tell you

Just picked it up, and although I am 'up on things' as far as new games, movies, and nerdnews, I didn't know anything about this game 4 days ago...why?

Bioware, who makes awesome games started with the epic RPG Baldur's Gate series which were the best RPGs ever made (unless you're a console RPGer then FF, but IMO) then they went and made Neverwinter Nights - and it felt choppy and I didn't enjoy it. Then KOTOR, which was ok...

Then the face of RPGs changed and went to a more FPS with RPG elements ala Oblivion, or Fallout 3. OR RPGs went the MMO grindtastic feast route...

So when I first glanced at Dragon Age I wasn't thinking anything, let alone hoping for a return to old school feel with the new school tech, but that's exactly what this game delivers.

So I picked it up, and started playing it, and can say I am enjoying it a shit load! If you like Baldur's Gate, then pick up Dragon Age, if you like the FPS RPG, this might be enjoyable but your ADD will probably kick in and you'll get frustrated.

Hmm I was wondering about this one, thanks for the review. This is not an MMORPG correct? I am personally a big fan of a lot of JRPGs with a structured plot, but can get off on FPS RPGs as well. How do you think this will fit into those preferences?

to Timmy - this is not an MMORPG, but straight up single player RPG, that can handle like old school Baldur's gate - Zoomed out view, right click to move OR move in close and walk round with the W,S,A.D (like WoW)
- it's plot is great so far, but does tend to have many side quests that can pile up and the main story get lost.

Chilly - The same peoples that made KOTOR & Mass Effect makes Dragon Age, but this is very much the High Fantasy LOTR style RPG.

Cool dude, it's about time they made another good RPG available for the PS3.

Don't worry Shane I trust your opinion enough to actually buy the game last night. Only about 4 hours in, but really see the potential. Thanks.

Yeah I know Bioware, I deleated my post cause it seemed like I contradicted myself and couldnt be bothered fixing it, what I meant was that I liked the sci fi setting of KOTOR (plus im a huge star wars fan) but when I learned it was sort of "turn based" I wasnt that sure about it but it turned out great, the only Baulders gate I played was on ps2 and I loved it. Im probably gonna pick up this game today :)

that battle of Ostagar was amazing! I'm really enjoying the Roleplaying elements, like talking to my team mates at the camp sites, just the level of immersion is amazing.

Also note the PC version is the best as you can zoom out and in of the action and manage the strategy of other npcs in your party with greater detail, also the graphics are better.

The PS3 apparently has the edge on the XBox 360 in terms of graphics and the console version's menu system is vastly different to the PCs. Console version is meant to be easier to play with no tough battles, you almost sail through.

I got the PC version, I stupidly ordered the Xbox 360 version.

I always prefer the PC-version of a game just because of what you mentioned. You always seem to be able to have more options as a player to control the game you are playing and it ADDS to the enjoyment of the game. Sure, some things like Madden Football and Racing games can be fine on the console systems. But the truth is, the best games will always be even better on the PC.

This is true to a point that if you want a serious gaming time, PC all the way. The consoles do have some great RPGs though like Chronotrigger and Final Fantasy (although I never got into the FF series) they still had a great concept and execution.

The thing I love about PC games (generally) is the ability to mod, or get mods for games. Take Dragon Age, great game, and could be equally good on consoles, yet the PC version will get the world building toolset soon. While most people won't care, this is something I look forward to fiddlin with
