Permalink Reply by Wounded Cyc△d on February 20, 2012 at 10:31pm only the very first run PS3s have backward compatibility

PS2 games, you're SOL.
Permalink Reply by Joe on February 21, 2012 at 11:18am If I'm not mistaken, the 20, 60, and 80 gigs play PS2 games. As for PS1, all PS3's play PS1 games.
Permalink Reply by Mo-Mo on February 21, 2012 at 1:13pm only certain 80 GB ps3's play ps2 games you need to look at the model number
Permalink Reply by Mo-Mo on February 21, 2012 at 1:15pm If you go to game stop don't believe them when they tell you you can't save old games you can make a virtual memory card on ps3's And the 20 GB ps3's don't have wi-fi if that makes a difference
Permalink Reply by A Shitting Unicorn on February 21, 2012 at 4:03pm The first generation ps3's (which I proudly still claim and will never ever let go off till they pry it out of my dead hands) play ps1 and ps2 games because I've been playing chrono cross and Persona 4 on them but I've heard that the new editions do not come with this feature.
Permalink Reply by Stringer Bell on February 23, 2012 at 10:46pm By now PSX and PS2 emulators are pretty solid in their compatibility. Not being able to play X title on your PS3 should not be an issue. Just use an emulator....
i suggest eBay if you want a backwards compatible ps3. but you risk getting screwed.
