Doctor Who... A Tennant retro
What with the final Tennant episodes looming over christmas I got to thinking about how good he has been as the Doctor. Answer... epic!
People still moan on that the modern Doctor Who isn't as good as the old one well to them I say FOOLS! Now I ain't ragging on old Doctor Who but the new series are so much better. Where as the old series seemed a bit 2D sci-fi the newer ones have deep emotion and character development you just don't get in other sci-fi tv shows maybe thats why it's been taken up by the British public so well, and not just cos it's a fuckin institution. As an example the laitest episode "Water on Mars" took me to a whole new place and even at one point made me think "DAMN the Doctor's a bit of an evil dick". Not only this but the way they put hints through whole series the at the end BAM! they all come together for a massive finale is brilliant.
And this in my opinion is down to a stella 3 series performance by Tennant who really seems to understand the role he's playing and makes the character relateable and human but at the same time distant and alien. But all good things must come to an end and soon Matt Smith will take over, I'm sure he's going to be great as well they don't muck around when choosing Doctors.
So I ask what did you think of the last 3 series and where the show might be heading next?
Oh and can't wait for "The End Of Time".

Got to wait until Mid-Dec for The Waters of Mars in America, and not sure when they'll show the final Tennant specials. But, they are saying that they'll be showing the final 3 some time in Dec on BBC-America..... So, have to still wait for it here. =(

I've really been digging the new stuff. I sort of look at it like the James Bond series. It has changed over time and still maintained a mass appeal. I have a reverence for the old stuff, what it accomplished as far as establishing a mythos based on the character. The new Doctor Who series has been retooled to appeal to today's audience while not losing the heart of the story. Although I wouldn't say the new stuff is better, I will say it has shed some of the failings of the old series such as drawn out story arcs, shallow female offsiders, poor special effects, etc.

Yeah. I can't understand why they keep bringing up Rose when the rest of the story is moving forward. Sure she was a companion, but I never hear them sobbing about poor old Adric.

yer but she was mena be the love of his life, regeneration, we didn't see it but I garentee you they banged in that tardis. to me the last series was more about davros's return. but you guys gotta admit it is one of if not the best sci-fi programme out there rite now and how they manage to come up with new aliens every week.

No doubt. I like the new creatures they come up with, but the way they updated the old enemies like Daleks, Sontarans and such is even better.
And I doubt they banged in theTardis since the people of Gallifrey have no genitals.

Can't wait for the new series to get cracking! Waters of Mars will air December 6th here. They'll probably put some filler specials in until the Christmas show. End of Time is repeating tonight on ABC2 for all the Who Heads in OZ to get their fix.

I already watched Waters of Mars this past Sunday...online, same day it aired in the UK.
One, and only one cool thing happened...Doctor Who got in touch with his darker side for a brief moment...really scary!!!

Init was a bit lame but that scene at the end made up for the rest!
Old doctor who was before my time and I have watched a bit but like they said on ACOCO about the A-team I just find it hard to look back at that stuff and not say "hey thats a guy in a really bad costume".

Although i enjoyed "Waters of Mars" Some things did get me thinking about the "Time lord victory". Can we Do any spoilers in this thread?
