Hey All,

I've read reviews and watched some youtube videos and I've heard only good things about Dead Space. From the gameplay videos I've seen, I can see that it's gory as hell and I love gory games and I love survival horror games, which is more than enough to interest me in playing any game.

I got both dead space 1 and 2 off steam and figured before I play 2 I have to play Dead Space 1, right?

Right off the bat, controls are solid and the system for inventory and map is solved without a HUD is awesome. Adds to the tension, makes you plan your next move without knowing at all what's coming your way, which is a moot point because you just get loaded back to the previous save point with all your inventory if you die anyway.

The dismemberment is fun as hell. Changes the whole game, I love not just having to aim for the head like every other game I've ever played. The gore is one of my favourite elements of Dead Space.

The story is pretty decent too, it is fun to read audio and text blogs, and have the story unfold with catastrophe after catastrophe.

This is all good except for one thing. I found myself trudging through the game less than half way through just to reveal more story line, the story line was intriguing enough for me to go through the motions of killing the same enemies, seeing the same train station with very little variation in environment. I think a gameplay should keep me going, not the storyline. Does any one else agree with this? Did anyone else not enjoying playing the actual game?

I really like that gameplay is non stop as it unfolds more story, having videos play on your hologram thingy, but it's not enough, the gameplay is too repetitive between interesting gameplay sections (e.g:Zero gravity puzzles) The protagonist doesn't evolve with the story so there is nothing really driving the gameplay progression. I feel at this point (I believe I'm at 90% of the game now) I could just watch gameplay videos on youtube to understand the rest of the story and I would get the same satisfaction as playing it, which is what I plan to do.

What do ya'll think?

Thanks

Moe

I wanted to play the first game due to the neat GameInformer article that came out back in 2007 but I never got the chance to play it the following year due to my mother's money restrictions at the time.

Sometime before the sequel came out, I didn't have that much of an interest in playing the second one until a friend of mine told me a lot about DS mythology and showed me funny reactions of people playing a demo of the second game. So, on a whim and a nifty trailer blaring a Smashing Pumpkins song I loved since I was kid, I decided to give the second one a go on some cash I got from my Grandmother and some funds from Mum.

Did not regret it for one second. It was such a damn good time.

With rumors of the third one taking place on a snow planet (I see what you did there, Visceral) and using the lovely Frostbite 2 engine, I'm very open to see where the franchise goes. I just hope they don't shoe-horn in some Co-Op bullshit into the story. I'd go up the fucking wall.

what kept you guys playing it through to the end(Assuming you did so)? Was it the story or the game play

I really like the Dead Space games. The second was more action oriented, but I never thought the first was scary so it was a good thing.

A Dead Space 3 announcement is probably the only thing that would make me go "woo-hoo!" come E3 (Besides DA3). I couldn't care about anything else except for some games to be shown (Tomb Raider, Overstrike).

If I had a game in production and there was only enough resources/money to improve the game play or the story. I would improve the shit out of the gameplay. But in this case it would be fruitless, I believe that the gameplay feels like a trudge because of the voice/face less protagonist that has no personal story arc besides he's spouse that got lost or something(the protagonist doesnt care so why should I), so I don't care that I'm escaping this survival horror situation.

Love to hear what people think

I found the story interesting, especially towards the end when I had a large variety of guns to play with and the last few plot twists kept me intrigued. plus the fact that you know that there is a build up to interesting bosses. I don't see why you wouldn't finish the game when you have played through so much of it.

Also there is a final cut-scene that really shows you how the character Isaac is feeling through the whole ordeal. it's not much but it's more than what you'll get with a half life title.

Loved them Both. 2 was a lot better than one and I like that Issac got a voice in 2 it gave him a bit more of a character and also Curbstomps. Lots and Lots of Curb Stomps

I watched the gameplay videos, the curbstomps looks like fun, I love the idea of stomping items out of enemies, like a violent version of mario lol. And that satisfying stomp but does it get repetitive like the first one?

Never!
