I might reactivate my account when it goes free to play. I didn't play further than the initial free month when it came out. It was quite enjoyable and the combat system was a fun change when you are used to the usual MMO systems.

And why not? It's free.

yeah the same but i played for 3 months not including the beta so i guess im what they call an premium member whatever that means. i hope there going to be more people on the servers now that it is going free to play.

Do I have to buy a copy of the game? That's a major factor.

Also, do the PS3 version and PC version run on the same servers?

yeah u have to buy the game retail or though the playstation network store. and the pc and ps3 versions run on different servers but cross-play is suppose come to the game

You don't have to purchase anything if you want to play this when it goes Free To Play.

From their FAQ:

"There is no software purchase or subscription fee required for basic game content and features."

is that just for the digital version because i cant see gamestop giving anything away for free.

Yea it's just digital, when it goes free to play I guess you just download the basic game client from their site.

My belief is that cross-play isn't coming.  Even if that was their original intent, I doubt they see it as being worth the investment at this point.  My assumption (and I may be wrong) is that the point of making the game free to play is that people who weren't willing to buy the game and pay a subscription fee at first might get the basic version for free, get hooked, and opt to pay for the premium version to get all the features.  If that's the case then they're probably not planning on sinking more money into development for new stuff... at least not for a while.

I won't. I played this game for about 4 months. I really liked the look of the game, "interacting" with DC characters and the combat was pretty satisfying compared to most MMO's. But after you complete the main story, and side missions, there is very little to do and I got bored VERY fast. I think you hit the level cap too fast. You can do daily alerts and raids (which are the exact same thing over and over) so you can get Tier armor, that will let you raid more.... I didn't see a point in that.

The content was interesting to me in a way that most MMO's don't deliver. I am a comic geek and loved being in that world. I'd say now that it is free to play that it is definitely worth checking out if you haven't already, but it isn't going to bring me back or change the fact that game has the replay value of a standard single player RPG.

Hitting the level cap and redoing the same raids over and over in the off chance that you might get higher tier armor to make you more effective at doing the same raids over and over?  Gee, doesn't that sound familiar?

DCUO has one major selling point: It's the first superhero MMO that has known superheroes in it.

-Character customization SUCKS

-Even casual players can max out in a week

-Missions are basic at best

-End game content is just sad

-and no, you cannot nor will EVER be allowed to play your favorite hero except in a limited arena-style duels.

If you want a much better Superhero MMO that has both free to play and paid opinions, a HUGE character creation library and even the ability to custom pick your powers, then play Champions Online. Let DCUO die.

I played City of Heroes for many many years, bordering on a WoW like addiction. The character creation system was what kept me coming back. I could play as a 4 foot tall robot ninja or a werewolf cheerleader with an assault rifle or a broadsword wielding teenage alien. It gave me the ability to REALLY create my own characters where other MMO's locked me into two or three roles and limited me getting into the character. DCUO took a huge step back in that department, but was still better than most MMO character creators.

Did you play CoH? I never tried Champions Online, curious how it compares.
