Apparently DC is starting a new line of books in March they're calling the First Wave with Brian Azzarello (100 Bullets, Joker) at the helm. Its set in a more grounded world where there are no superpowers. There is going to be two ongoing titles featuring characters Batman, Doc Savage, the Avenger, the Spirit, Black Canary, Rima the Jungle Girl, and the Blackhawks.
Even though the new titles won't start til March they kicked off the universe this week with the Batman Doc Savage Special. The most striking thing about it is that Batman uses guns liberally. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about it and I was kinda disappointed with Joker but I picked it up anyway and it was damn good. It has a cool retro pulp feel to it like Batman the animated series and the way Batman played off Doc Savage was great and showed what still made him Batman even while using guns. In the back there is a bunch of character sketches by Rags Morales who is going to be the artist on one of the books.
My favorite read of the week. So did anyone else pick it up or have thoughts on this new line of pulp heroes?
