Creating a comic book hero, i need help!
Ok, im creating a comic book character, and i need some opinions and suggestions.
Name: Adamas (greek word meaning diamond.)
Power: Has the ability to turn any part oh his body to diamond, when in diamond form he can bend light through any part of his body. If he bends light through his,
Feet= Flight
Hands= light rays
Chest= Huge light ray, think of a big magnifying glass burning ants (or in this case, bad guys)
Power Cont.: Durability
Me and my buddies are working on a comic, and we are assigned to come up w/ a character. So just let me know whats good and whats not.

You list a lot of powers, but who is he? What type of person is he? Motivations, interests, background, etc. Just curious, unless that isn't part of the assignment.

well, the first thing we are working on is are characters, and i need a good explanation as to how he gets these powers.
I think he is going to have a god complex. at first he will probably fight crime, but i would really like to eventually move him over to the dark side. you know like the god complex gets to him and he thinks he can take over the world or something. but back to the powers he has. it all derives from his fusion with diamonds. i just dont know a way of making the whole fusion thing sound cool. Any help?

If you want to go old school, make aliens alter his DNA and give him powers, because he's the most worthy person they can find.

I'd be careful that the art doesn't end up looking like a Twilight comic book. If he can bend light, then he can become invisible to all eyes, mechanical and human (Read some Stephen Hawking theories on this for more information. At least I think it's Hawking...). He'd probably have some sort of heat signature which could be read but that depends on whether or not it's the skin or the entire body which turns to diamonds.
If you had it that he catches the light through the diamonds, and as the colours split he channels them back together in a new form of his choosing and pushes them out as pure light again. That'd allow you to explain the light rays and heat rays he can hit people with. Are you going to do the rays invisible like pure light and just show the effects, or will they shoot out as different colours?
I'd recommend something unusual for the character background. Maybe an abusive father or uncle? Maybe he's black? Or a woman? It might seem a bit weird but it'll help you create stories that stand out from the usual alpha-male-beat-up-the-bad-guys crap you get in many comics.
You could have him kill someone by accident in one of his early forays into crime fighting. Maybe when he's all diamonds a bullet ricochets off him and hits someone else? It'll give you a nice stepping stone for when he goes bad. The burning of bad guys could be really cool if you make it extremely vicious and gritty; so suddenly Adamas realises that he's caused all this pain and his powers aren't all that great. Maybe has a bit of a breakdown which just gets worse?
