I figured I would go ahead and inform my fellow Spillios about this. If any of you guys or girls use Skype, be careful, there is a worm going around. Basically once you open Skype, you will get a request for a zip file. Afterwards you receive a message from a random user asking "lol Is this your new profile pic?" and a link is included. Clicking the link is possibly the trigger, as afterwards your computer will lock down. There is also a message requesting a $200 ransom essentially for your computer to be "returned" to you. Also, the same screen shows a list of illegal sites that will claim were visited on your computer to be reported to the Federal Government, essentially blackmailing or threatening you to pay this random. Be careful Spillios. Figured I'd give a heads up.

I work tech support for a big ISP, and we've gotten this call a couple of times. We just refer to it as the "FBI virus"...not that it's an official FBI message. Also, it's not just a Skype related worm/virus/trojan. It's been reported to infiltrate other programs as well...It's a doozy....

I wouldn't think so, though not 100%. But my reasons are, it first comes as a zip file to open when ya load up Skype. And second, no one would pay a $200 ransom for a phone or iPod I believe. I could be wrong but I find it more likely that this worm mostly affects computer users.

I've fixed it on a friends computer. Its really not all that hard to get rid of. I've had harder time removing the one that pretends to be a virus protection software(Glad that bitch got caught).
