If it's crap ... We'll tell you
The Gambler of Fate. posted a statusDid anyone catch the mini-series Black Mirror recently? It's this really amazing British sci-fi with a lot of satire. It feels as if the Twilight Zone but in the 21st century. It was pretty amazing if you ask me. Written by Charlie Brooker, known for his brilliant analysis of television and current events in his shows Screenwipe and Newswipe, he really nails it with these three hourlong episodes he made.

Permalink Reply by Artie Fufkin on January 7, 2012 at 11:05am i thought the 1st episode was the weaker of the 3 but that's just me, I think the drudgery and monotony of daily life in the 2nd episode where you are penalised for turning away from what they say you should be watching etc was very clever and in this facebook age where you can fuck about on an app or game that can engulf your free time and all you get is a new hat or some other shit that doesn't exist. The only aspirations for getting out of that shitty life is to appear on a scumbag talent show not too dissimilar to anything simon cunt cowell has shat into existance is a reflection on how society could go if we don't stand up and get rid of the scum that try to subvert public opinion to the bland and soulless
Permalink Reply by extrakinky on January 6, 2012 at 6:10pm I liked the first one the most too. What I loved is how they build up the tension. At first I laughed at the whole idea, but when it became clear that they didn't just do this for laughs, and presented it very straight-faced, it really crawled under my skin and made me cringe. But I did like the other two as well. I thought the visual style of the second episode was breathtaking. The third one was great as well, but it was too bad that the main character of that episode was such a major douche nozzle.
Permalink Reply by Travis Pickle on January 6, 2012 at 7:50pm Yeah the 1st one was just batsh*t audacious! only Brooker lol The second ones basic visuals actually put me off, and the main guy was like a block of wood so I never watched it all so I'm not sure if the things I found sh*t about it were meant to be like that? The 3rd one - I like Toby Kebell and it was a cool idea just compared to the lunacy of the 1st ep. the 2nd & 3rd could never stand up to that! my wife saw it and said you HAVE to watch it! I had every intention coz it's Charlie Brooker but I think even for him it was nuts!

Permalink Reply by Artie Fufkin on January 7, 2012 at 11:08am for fuck sake watch the other 2 episodes or just in the nicest possible way FUCK OFF how can you say you prefer the 1st ep when you haven't even watched the other 2? come back when you do and then we'll talk
Permalink Reply by Travis Pickle on January 10, 2012 at 11:39am I watched 1 & 3 and 90% of 2 before I fell asleep because it was dull as fuck.

Permalink Reply by Artie Fufkin on January 10, 2012 at 11:58am if you think Daniel Kaluuya's performance was wooden think of it this way, your life is made up of peddling an exercise bike to generate power, your wages are the equivelent of the non existent credits you get for performing on some of the social networking games, you have television pumped into your brain ad infinitum and are actually persecuted for closing your eyes to avoid looking at it, it costs you credits to switch off the programs all together and to top it all off you and everyone around you are wearing earphones so there is not much conversation. now with that in mind how do you think you would cope? i would have commited suicide quite quick but he like everyone else is just fed up and going through the motions which is why i think you used the word wooden instead of downtrodden. his outpouring towards the end is one of the best performances i have seen in a fucking long time! give it a chance and get back to me ya big twat
Permalink Reply by extrakinky on January 7, 2012 at 5:25am Yeah Brooker is pretty great it amazes me how few people know him (maybe inside the UK it's different?).. I mean How TV ruined your Life as well as Black Mirror and pretty much all he's done has blown my mind
Permalink Reply by steven cowie on January 10, 2012 at 7:38am felt this was more assured than Dead Set.
The National Anthem....this was Brooker at his most juvenile really, a smart idea that took too long to get going.
15 Million Merits...dont know whether ive read too much PK Dick, but this was like coming home to me, echoes of Brave New World and Kafka....
The Complete History of You....a great concept marred by poor acting.
not to be all GG, but i feel that Brooker has softened in recent times, possibly due to him getting laid more haha.
