If it's crap ... We'll tell you
Hey guys, just wondering what you spildos like more, more arcade style shooters like Call of Duty, where you just spend most of your time running in circles, or more strategic game, like Ghost Recon or Battlefield, where a team is almost forced to work as a team if they want to win. I'm more of a strategic person myself, but what about you guys?
Well I suppose it's just all in how you look at it, or how you play the game
CoD is not an arcade shooter it's a mix between arcade and tactical.
This is an arcade shooter:
and this is a tactical shooter:
Can't really say that I prefer one over the other it just depend what I'm in the mood for. If forced I would probobly go more for the realistic.
I personally wouldn't consider COD an arcade shooter
I think what your more saying is squad based vs solo shooters
I'd personally go with Arcadey shooters because realistic/strategic shooters become rather dull quickly due to the planning and the fact you have to rely on others and if the team gets screwed over it's just a buliding level of frustation that comes from trying to figure out what went wrong.
Also Arcade throws me off because when I think of Arcade I think of bullet hell games or Metal Slug type arcade shooters
Call of Duty is not an arcade shooter.
It depends on the exact genre of the game and especially in what mood I am.
For me, there isn't a "best." They both have a time and place in my game playing.
I like strategic shooters, and one of my favorites was one of the old Rainbow Six games on the PC where you could actually plan out the attack on a map before the mission. Drag a line to a door, have two men breach and clear it while two more did the same on the opposite side of the room. Click Start and watch it all unfold and see how well you planned it out. It felt like a RTS/Shooter hybrid. I enjoyed the planning of each mission more than carrying it out.
But then there are times I want to just jump on for 10 minutes and kill some people. COD is good for me because I can play Domination or TD and just unplug my brain while I play or get into a game of Search and Destroy or Sabotage and work with friends tactically. You can run around in circles in any game, but even in COD, if you work as a team and communicate you will RAPE the opposition, even in something like team deathmatch (and especially in the more complicated modes). I like BF as well, but don't end up playing it as much for whatever reason.
Ikaruga is a really fun arcade shooter, although shoot 'em ups are probably not what you're talking about. For that, I'd go with EDF 2017. If you like arena style scenarios with a lot of enemies and intentionally over the top dialogue.
I do like the more "strategic" shooters as well, but as of now the market is saturated with them. I want some variety, you know?
Meh, they all have a place in entertaining me.
I don't really like any of the modern combat game on the market right now, but the strategic games seem to be made or broken on the people you're playing with. Unfortunately, a lot of people on, say, XBL Battlefield try to play the game like Call of Duty, and get their entire team slaughtered for it, while on PC, where people have been playing the game for years, they seem to work together better. That's just the impression I get, though.
arcade shooters for me. if i wanted to hide in the bushes for 2 hours i would have joined the marines.
Strategic shooters are better because, I love games that are punishing and that all I have to do is think or, act fast or, whatever it takes. Those are just the best to me. That is why I am trying to get Battlefield 3 because I heard it was very strategic. If not correct me but I just love a good one anyways.
