Harry Potter has to be classified somewhere in the top.

Personally I'd have to say Bond. Sure there are some duds, but overall there is some really good stuff.

I'm with you Indiana Jones is the best franchise IMO. But also series like Evil Dead and Terminator are some of my favorite movies.

The Star Wars Prequels. What else? I mention them seperately because some treat them as an entity unto itself. For me it's like saying Beyond Thunderdome isn't part of the Mad Max series.

Using the word "franchise" has connotations of "legal rights" about it. I lump SW1-3 with 4-6, as Lucas is still rolling the same ball he started.
Was tempted to put something like Dr.Who on the list for longevity, as they technically did make movies for it, but that was a stretch. On the other hand, Star Trek can be judged simply on the movies they did make, with out TV.

Star Wars (Prequels suck, spin off such as video games, toys, books, etc. are cool enough the let them slide)
Lord of the Rings
Star Trek (I was going to say pre-2000, but the movie redeemed the franchise)
